Just finished this one to send my older brother for his 50th birthday. I figured I needed to send something a little extra special since he's half a century old. I wrote in his card that when he wears it he should pretend it's a hug from me. At least he'll know he's loved.

Good Lord, that's gorgeous! I'm new to knitting and have just started a scarf with a cable in it. I hope to someday have the talent you do. I hope your brother appreciates the effort you put into his gift!

Lois. Keep at it. I've only been doing this about 3 years but became instantly obsessed. The trick is not to be intimidated to try new things. Also, anytime you come across a stitch in a pattern that's unfamiliar to you, the internet is a wonderful resource to learn how to do it. Just plug the stitch name or abbreviation into the search engine and you'll be all set!

This is what family love is about! This scarf is awesome beyond words!!
Please share where you found such a beautiful pattern. I'm not sure I'm up to this challenge but I know I sure want to try this particular pattern.
You really would like an adopted sister now wouldn't you? LOL!!
Beautiful work!

Carol,

I actually adopted parts of a sweater pattern I found in an out-of-print copy of "Knitter's Magazine" (Knitter's Magazine Winter 1996 - Vol. 13, Number 4) to make my brother's scarf. If you send me a private message, I'll be happy to provide the pattern I used for your personal use.

Thanks, Kichi.

I fell in love with the pattern too. It was actually a single vine that formed the middle panel of a cabled sweater. I just repeated the pattern twice over and over again until I got the length of scarf that I wanted. I added a simple cabled edge to either side of the scarf to make it a little more interesting and give it a more substantial look.

That is absolutely beautiful! He is very lucky.
You women and men on here make me feel so inspired. I've made 2 things now, and have SO many things I want to make that I don't know where to go next! I feel like my skill isn't anywhere near when it'll need to be to make some of these things, but knowing its all just variations of knits and purls, and that I have a wealth of knowledge and expertise available to me here (which is way better than a google search because it can be an actual conversation) I know I can actually tackle anything, no matter the skill level. It just may take me a while to complete some things and I may be on here a lot! Thanks for the support I've gotten and am yet to receive everyone! And keep up the good work Jeannine!

The scarf is so beautiful I too can see the love for your brother in the scarf. I too have a wonderful brother and would love to make him something this nice. I have looked and pondered on patterns and somehow they just didn't feel right. But this scarf does. Thank you for allowing us to see it.
