Would like to make the letters out of a bold color with the background being a softer color. Does anyone think
it would be possible? Then I'm stumped on
what colors to use. Baby will be a girl. Help!!!

Hi Audrpe: Guess what? I'm crocheting this exact afghan right now, but I'm making it one color. I think making the letters a different color would be very difficult, as sometimes there are SC after each puff. But, you could do it. Let me know what you decide.

Hot pink for letters and cream or a really bright white for the background would be bold. - anastasia
Thank you. Maybe I will make this with just one color. Do not really like changing colors. Are you making your blanket out of Simply Soft or are you using something else? This is so cute! I would like see see a picture of yours too. Think I'll just make it pink for the baby girl. On the one picture it shows it with flannel sewn on the back of it but I don't know if I'll do that. Don't want it to be too heavy. 36"x42" is big enough. Will have to go shopping for some yarn now. Thank you again, Shirl.
Hi Audrpe - my first afghan I made with Simple Soft and found it too big, now I make it out of Bernat baby sport. It takes about 4 skeins and I use a "F" hook. It is a little less than 36x42, but the people I make it for say it's just the right size. The one I'm making is a soft peach. I don't mind changing colors on some patterns if it doesn't involve too many changes.

Talk to you again

Was going to ask how much of the yarn it took and you already answered me. 5 skeins of Simply Soft sounds like too much but maybe because it is so large. Think I'll get the lighter Bernat baby sport and try that. Hope they have enough pink. This baby will be born in July so I've got time. Excited to start working on it.

It is a fun pattern. Once you've made it, it will go faster. I started mine last Tues and I'm done with the ABC (on the top). Hav fun!!!! If you can, send a pic of it.

I could not picture that afghan after just the directions, so I was delighted that you gave us the second site to go to. That is just darling! Now I too can't wait to see pictures!
I made this blanket and pictures do it no justice!! It is awesome made up!!
Does anyone have this blanket pattern for us knitters???? Love it.
I made this blanket many years ago -- I made the blanket in white and then used pastel versions of purple, blue, green, yellow, pink, orange alternating in the letters. I've seen it done in the bright colors too, but on a beige backgroun--that looked pretty too.

What about embroidering over the letters in a satin stitch after making the blanket? That might look nice and you could use a different color for each letter.
good idea Sharnkay! Don't think I want to try switching colors for this and that sounds a lot easier to do it that way. My son is saying plum for color so let me see what it looks like once I get started on it. Have to buy the yarn tomorrow!
Well I got yellow yarn and started it. Am on row 5 and it is pretty easy. Hope it goes by fast because I want to see what it is going to be like when at least one row of the alphabet is done.
Audrpe - was wondering if you finished the ABC afghan and what you did; i.e., left it one color or did embrodery. Would love to see pics.

It's done. Didn't add color but it turned out nice. Thank you for reminding me. :)
