You'd think you'd SEE the cat before you closed the suitcase. It's a wonder the poor cat wasn't asphyxiated closed up in a suitcase like that. Glad the cat was okay and returned to its' owner.

No. There are no silent cats. There are breeds that are more quiet, but even they will meow at times.

That depends. Adult cats NOT raised with humans (i.e. feral) don’t generally meow, not even after being tamed enough to live in a house with people.
Cats raised in a human household retain the kitten-behaviour of meowing.

Sure glad the cat was okay! Cats love enclosed spaces and are very good at finding them - or inventing them. 😉 I have three feral cats that I adopted (same litter). They never meowed at all for the first two years, and now only very rarely. I once adopted a cat which had a litter of four shortly after. Three of the kittens hissed constantly while the four played together, as kittens usually do. The fourth never hissed, then or later. Teddy was the only cat I ever encountered that never hissed in his life. And the funny thing is he was ”talker”. He would answer me with meows whenever I talked to him. He would literally carry on a fifteen or twenty minute conversation with me - and I’m sure he would have gone on longer if I had. But he never hissed - not when playing, or angry or startled. As far as cats are concerned I’m not sure there is a “normal”. 😁

Sounds like something my cat Smokey would do. I find her under my comforter, under blankets on the couch and other places you wouldnt understand how she got there. Glad the cat was ok.

You would think...... I'm the neighborhood cat sitter--can't afford to go anywhere so I get to cat sit. My rules: Always go over with the cat owner all the favorite places to sleep and hide--some cats don't adjust to new people in the house and would hide until you leave. My rule is I don't leave the house until I've laid eyes on the cat and know it is safe. I also try to feed the cat or cats close to the regular times they are used to being fed, then I sit with them for at least an hour in the evening (reading or watching TV)--whether they sit in my lap or hide from me, they have companionship. I have yet to have a cat totally hide from me--they always come out after a day or two and I know their hiding places. I have tee-shirts from around the world....my reward.
So, yes, why didn't the person traveling say goodbye to the kitty before leaving? But then we don't know the whole story.
