For the past three decades, our tradition each year is to gift a personal dated ornament to each immediate family member and often close friends. This year, I'd already decided to knit ornaments using Anja Hjorth Nielsen's free Elf pattern (https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/elf-or-nisse), which I planned to embellish with embroidery. As the madness of COVID continued, I scrapped the embroidery idea and decided to add masks, making them uniquely representative of 2020. Completing 25 ornaments took a long time, but I had a lot of fun making them, especially finding designs for the masks that would work and often matched individual personalities. My project notes show more details and pictures, if you're interested (https://www.ravelry.com/projects/rosemiler/elf-or-nisse).
