I prefer using straight needles. I guess I'm just old fashioned. I do have Boyd's circular complete set but, it's just ok. I'm now knitting a blanket with 270 stitches per row. I need circulars! What are the best? What length cord should I get? I'm thinking of getting 1 pair of fixed, not interchangables since I don't usually use them . I have signature brand straights but thought there may be a less expensive quality circular I could buy. hELP!

I love using circulars and I have bought the ones that they have at Michaels. I prefer the ones that are bamboo. I would get the longest ones that you can find in the size that you need. I also have a set of interchangeable needles that have a 48" cord I use for afghans.

Why not try the ones you already have, first.

I easily fitted 276 stitches in DK cotton on a 40" circular needle. My preferred circs are 'Addi' lace, fixed. Didn't like the interchangeable ones, I returned them, (they were a bit rough on the joins and one came apart once). Haven't tried many of the ones available in USA. :) :) :)

Most people who love circulars have found ones with flexible cords that do not retain the curl from the package. Then they have found the needle tips that are the material (wood, bamboo, aluminum, etc) that they prefer and the tips (more pointed, more rounded...) they prefer. Then they love the circulars

Go to the local yarn shop and check out what is available. See what feels good to you.

Many people find the Boyd circulars cable is too stiff - not flexible enough.

I love the Chiaogoo circulars. And yes, I was gifted some bamboo circulars recently, and I love them. However, my chihuahua loves them too! He never bothered my knitting stuff before, but got hold of my largest bamboo circulars and made a wonderful chew toy out of them!

I didn't know which addis to order? Are they exchangeable if I don't like them?
I ordered Addi lace tips and found my hands cramp badly because of the short length. I then ordered Addi long lace tips and love them for the lace work I like to do. I'm also working on a short poncho-like thing in boucle yarn - the sharp lace tips just don't work, so I ordered the Addi bamboo. The have blunter points that won't split the boucle when I work and will be less slippery. So I will have 3 sets of Addis for different kind of work.

I got them at substantial discount - if you PM me I'll give you a code to enable you to get the discount.

Granydede, I am using my old circulars now for an afghan with 300+ stitches in worsted. I joined two cables together from my interchangables and made sure I tightened them well with the "doohickey" that comes with the set, as well as the needles. Unfortunately, my Addi click-ons couldn't handle the push and pull of the many cables and pattern stitches and kept "unclicking" so I had to resort to my old needles and they are working well. I do check often to make sure they haven't loosened.

I don't care much for anything but straight, but sometimes, there is no choice....with the number of stitches you will have, I would get nothing short of at least 24"

i have the knit picks sunsturck and rainbows as the harmonies are now called. I also have a few fixed circs for hats that are shorter than the fixed. I have the knitter's pride cubics shorts also but prefer the knit picks.
old saying, when it comes to tools buy the best you can afford.

I dont like circulars never have, the only time I have used them is when I have a lot of stitches on the needle and then I knit with them straight. Never could get on with them, if I find a pattern that says use circulars I just adjust the pattern so I can use two needles, I even knit my socks on straight needles too and they come out great :D
