So far I just stick to colors I would wear or if its for someone specific then I ask them what color they would like. I'm not a huge fan of color for myself and I don't experiment with different colors. I love seeing how other people use colors but for me I like to stick to basics like black, grey, red and purple.

I find that I have a "color of the year". I am drawn to a particular color over and over for a period of time. Sometimes it's a certain yarn and I am limited to the colors the manufacturer produces. Certain shades of pinky-purple often win especially mixed with a leafy to olive green. Nothing prettier than pink and green-straight from the flower garden!

Instinct, gut reaction, colors just "speak" to me for whatever project I am working on. I know I am always happier with a project when I go with the color and fiber that "calls out" to me as I am searching. Since I only knit for a very select few of my family and friends, I know their color pallets, and the fiber will "speak" to me.

Whatever color I can find enough in the same dye lot. I wish I didn't have to say that, but it's true. When ordering online so that I do not have to worry about it, I go for the colors that I know look good on me. Which one depends on the colors available in that yarn.

I love color, so I play with all kinds of colors putting them together, keeping maybe just one and accenting with other colors. To me, the design sometimes dictates the color, sometimes even the stitch I am using may look better in a light or dark color. The gender of the recipient also plays a part.....oh I could go on and on. I like to be daring with color.

I like bright, cheery colors. But if I am doing something for a male, I use more neutral colors. If the person I am making something for is not a "bright" person, I'll probably use a more subdued color, but I am a fan of color!

When I make things if I have not been told a color then I put two colors together and see if they work, example.... I have used the same color purple yarn with white and i makes the purple brighter and I have used black with it and it turns down the color. But I also use a lot of variegated yarn and try to get as close as I can to one of the colors in it if all else fails I use a white with it or black.

Colour is hugely important to me - I know my friends' and family's favourites. Having been a dressmaker for ages I do consider I have a good eye for what colour suits which style.

I always think, when I buy new yarn, that I'm going outside of the box with new colors, but when I get it home and start to knit with it (especially if I'm sitting under my favorite, multicolored afghan), I see that it's simply variations on a theme. Unless I'm making pink baby clothes, everything else turns out to have shades of khaki, blue and purple.

When I was making silk bamboo scarves for my kids, I matched their eye color: gray for my younger son, brown for my older son, blue for his wife.

I have better luck if I stay in the same color families and that my colors blend.( both is tone and /or value) That way things will usually go to-gether. I don't like odd-ball colors that don't blend with anything.

Colour is what really excites me! I have a 2 way approach. Either through the recommendation of the yarn in any given pattern and I look at the colours that most suit me, or the person I am knitting for and then go for one that has a little 'edge' by this I mean, a colour that's not flat but has varigated nuances. The other method is to find some yarn , hopefully on sale, that I just love and try to find a pattern to match it. I also love putting colours together, especially for baby garments. I find colour stripes and simple fairisle keeps me interested and I also make decisions on the go... although I have planned to buy some wonderful colour pencils so I can make plans and versions. Colour provides endless possibilities.

I LOVE varigated varigated yarn. if I don't like the color do my yarn then my project is a drag to knit. Some times I'll find a beautiful single colored yarn and use it for a more elaborate pattern so the pattern stands out.nI love bright color like fushia or yellow teal etc

I start with colors I like and the colors I usually see the person I am knitting for wearing. Sometines I will ask a person and sometimes the just tell me. And of course there are colors that are popular. The season I am knitting for is important.

I stay away from oddball colors too. I also avoid anything too "trendy" because I know it will be out of style in a few days/months.
