I would like to start knitting for a craft fair around the holidays. My problem: do any of you have any ideas of what will sell? This will be my first craft fair and would like some suggestions as to what to sell. I am an intermediate level knitter. I have never used double pointed needles or round needles. I think I could figure out circular needles. Thanks for any suggestions.

Don't know where you're located, however, would suggest you call the nearest knit/crochet shop and ask for ideas. See if there is a craft / knit / guild (the knit shop should know) and inquire from them. They surely would know. Call your local hospital and ask if they have a fund raiser. If so, see if they will put you in touch with one/some of those registered in past craft shows or those who organize same. Call/go to your City Hall and find out the names of who to contact about their craft shows (they must get a license or pay a fee). Leave your number and ask them to call you. Ask your neighbors what they would buy if they went to a craft show. Contact charities and ask to be put in touch with those who participate in their fund raisers, also what they will accept (you can market by saying "Makes perfect gifts for those in hospitals").

And when all is said and done, do what you like! If you like it, you'll make it beautiful and it will sell. Wishing you the best.

We had a craft fayre just before Christmas and the large items like blankets, cardigans and baby clothes were still there at the end. What did sell were small novelty things, like tree decorations, head bands, garlands, table decorations and egg cosies. However a couple of hand knitted cats and dolls were among the first to be sold. Good luck.

I would say little items, espcially in the fall. Fingerless gloves (don't
get the appeal myself), headbands, cowls, infinity scarfs, fun hats (pumpkin, turkey, elf), cupcake, fishhead, etc.

I just found a thing for an "olive oil apron" that is absolutely adorable and could be sold for about a dollar. I would include something small, inexpensive and quick to make. Novelty caps especially in school colors are always good. A good eye catching display is a big asset. And place your items at different levels for better eye appeal.
Good luck and have fun.

I would agree with the suggestions of others. I have a suggestion. Whatever craft fair you enter, be sure to check on the amount of advertising they will be doing. I worked most of last year making fingerless gloves, ruffle scarves, baby bibs, adult headbands and baby headbands and dish cloths. The fair I entered was a bust. Hardly any customers. I barely made the cost of the table space back. Also, check to see if there is anything else going on at the time of the fair that would keep customers from attending. I put my things in a consignment store and most of my ruffle scarves were sold and a couple of bibs and all of my dish cloths. The things that I have sold privately that were popular is the fingerless gloves, ruffle scarves and headbands. Good luck. I hope you do well whatever you decide to make.

Fingerless gloves, infinity scarves, dishcloths, baby blankets and baby blanket buddies are big items that usually sell well at craft shows. Good luck. Headbands and small cost items do very well as well.

a lady across from me and I didn't sell anything knitted. We happen to live in an area where almost everyone knits!!!
My best seller Sat. was my greeting cards. People aren't buying a lot and mostly useful and location varies so much. I've done shows in this area for 40 years and depending on where I go, I take different things because the clientel varies from one town to the next. age wise especially.

I have sold many children's stocking hats, some scarfs, baby socks and a few adult stocking hats. I'm in Minnesota and only do 3-4 sales in the fall. Try to scout out a sale before you try it and consider the neighborhood. What is the I come level, etc. it's fun and I'm still learning. I don't want to be in many so I chose what I think will be the best location.

I think it depends on where you live, but I would think the smaller items would sell, since there s always room for one more stocking stuffer.

Good luck doing the fair should you decide to go ahead with it.

If you do a search here on the forum there have been many posts in the past, with lots of input and suggestions.

Just a word on dishcloths every craft show I go to has them and some of the people were selling them for 1 dollar!!
so even if you charge $2 they won't purchase yours
this is true.. unless the $1 ones are drab and yours are special.. like a contrast stripe in them or a special stitch and not just the Grandmothers Favorite! that could bring a little more.. :)

as for sellers... what about key rings. any little item can be added to a split ring and turned into a key ring. Those macrame and bead bracelets are always hot!
Pot holders, Pin Cushions, Market Bags!

I haven't done shows in several years, but the kind of shows and what else is going on in town will make a difference in what items sell. Also, whether the show is anything and whether it is juried will also make a difference. Some years ago I was with a craft group that put on an annual juried show where people had to send in pictures and/or an items of the kind of work they did. And there were usually some who tried to slip in commercial junk as well; those people were asked to either get rid of the junk or leave. So, check out what kind of show it is.
