We travel full time. 3 years ago when we were in Michigan we attended a local church that also had a prayer shawl ministry. They did not use any specific pattern. They just knitted rectangles either in stocking stitch or garter stitch. Between worship and Sunday School they had a social time for 30 minutes where they served coffee and cookies/donuts. On some of the tables they laid out prayer shawls for people to work on. Ladies would pick up and knit or crochet while drinking their coffee and visiting with others at their tables. Some of the shawls were placed on a table at the back of the sanctuary and could be used during the worship service. Most of the time whomever used the shawl would return it to the table after the service and other times would take it home with them. They also delivered some shawls to local nursing and skilled care facilities. When they celebrated their final fall harvest of their garden plot (this was another community ministry) they would take prayer shawls to with the final harvest to the local food bank. The garden ministry continued all summer long. On Wednesday's they would harvest the crop ready for that week and offer them, for free, to anyone who needed or desired fresh vegetables. On Thursday they would then take any produce not picked up on Wednesday evening to the local food bank. For the final harvest they would also collect boxed and canned goods and take all the food and prayer shawls to the food bank.
