This is the ultimate crochet forum I have come across:

http://www.crochetville.org/forum/

If the pattern doesn't specify knit or crochet, just look in the list of materials needed. Will state either needles (knit) or hook (crochet).

As to a particular pattern being available in both knit and crochet, I haven't come across many that are. I can't remember which site (Red Heart?) will state that the other craft pattern is available on the pattern page with the link.

Hi - I have found that there are loads of free crochet (and knitting) patterns on www.ravelry.com - nearly all of them have photographs and there are comments from members who have actually made the garment, so you can see it on a proper person instead of a carefully posed model! I find that this gives you a more realistic expectation of what your completed garment will look like on you!

Amazon.com also have a book called from needles to hook which they say is a complete guide to converting patterns from knitting to crochet, although I have never tried to do this as I have always found a crochet pattern that fit the bill.

Hope this helps, Di

Hi - good luck on the conversion. The Needles to Hook book shows a similar pattern in crochet. It is not a true conversion. It provides a similar "look." I have knitting pattern that calls for circular needles and I would love to make it in crochet but no matter how long and hard I search, I can't find any conversion mechanism. I wonder if a Knook would help?
