Thanks to other posters (and Youtube) I have learned a stretchy cast on, learned how to use life lines and can do mattress stitch even on curved surfaces and have learnt to persevere because it was not easy. I love the drapy shape of this pattern (http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/1403-deluxe-brioche) and stitch and it was very clearly written but I underestimated the difficulty (almost no straight bits at all).
