I'm knitting several Sashay scarves for Christmas gifts and I'm easily bored.

This led to frustration turning the work every 6 stitches, which led to trying backwards knitting (awkward at first but got easier within a few rows).

The result was a scarf flat on one side with cascading ruffles on the other - looked like something I would like.

I didn't continue since I am in mid-scarf but got me wondering if anyone has done this, and what the results were?

Thanks for any input!

I just finished one so the next one I'll start with the other option and then post a pic when I get a few rows done.

Can't be right now though - I HAVE to do something besides knit today!

Well, not only am I easily bored, I'm also a little slow sometimes (often   ).

I can simply do this as a stockinette stitch for the same result! And it reduces the yarn twisting :)

I know you are talking about knitting the scarf but have you seen on Maggiescrochet.com her video? I crochet mostly, and not all that well, and I yes even I made her scarf pattern in nothing flat  It made me so happy. I want to make several for GK in high school and college. Maggie uses starbella so if the video does not readily appear check her search for starbella. Enjoy the show.

Hi Flybreit:

There are other things that you can do with ruffle yarn, for instance, an evening clutch.

Cast enough stitches. the same a for a scarf, depends as big as you want the cluth. Continue until you have a good size square or rectangle. Once you reach the desirable size, saw the sides.

For closing the top, you can add a button or bead or a zipper whatever you like and there you have it, nice party clutch, preferably gith glitter or black..

Well, that other work just had to wait a little while - here is a few rows of the different option -
I have made many of these and haven't tried it that way but like the look of it. When I make my next one, going to try it this way. Thanks for showing the results.

How do you knit backward. I think I know but refresh me please. And, by being flat does that mean that all the ruffle is in the front of the work. Is it fluffier?
Poverbaugh, don't worry about knitting backwards - just turn your work and purl. Took me an embarrassingly long time to figure that out.

I like the way the ruffle looks - it's more back and forth instead of in circles.

That's how I do it now. I don't find it combersome at all. Kind of rythematic...k6, turn, k6 turn. Kind of like dancing. I'd probably wind up knitting 6 forward, knitting 6 backward and then forget and turn. And, that stuffs not easy to correct without ripping out.
