I have made quite a few afghans with this stitch. This stitch provides a thicker and warmer afghan. You also get a grid and can cross stitch. There are a lot more patterns out there now for Tunisian crochet. Clothing, accessories, etc. It is a nice addition to your skill set.marilyngf said:Tunisian crochet is quite easy to do.. It makes beautiful afghans and you can do cross stitch on them because of the way the stitches are. Give it a try.
These links might help:ngriff said:I was given several Tunisian panels to put together, but I've not seen instructions for doing that. Eventually, I'll figure out something. This work means a lot to the owner having been made by her deceased sister.
It is very easy to learn. Worth doing. I have done many tunisian entrelac baby blankets. Far easier than knitting entrelac.dannyjack said:I'm wondering if it's worth it to learn how to learn tunisian crochet. What is the first step?
Love your afghan, fergablu, and your "supervisor"fergablu2 said:I enjoy it. There are variations including tunisian in the round and double ended crochet, both of which use double ended hooks. You can get bamboo sets of the double ended and tunisian hooks inexpensively on eBay. If you decide you want to proceed with larger projects, you can invest in swing hooks or interchangeable crochet hooks.
You can use any cross-stitch pattern to make a picture panel in tunisian crochet, since the tunisian simple stitch is practically square.
Here's a sampler afghan I made:
