Has anyone tried using straight ebony needles? My husband purchased a lovely set for me for Christmas, and while using the first pair (no. 6), one snapped in half! I am nervous about trying any of the others! I'd love to hear if anyone else has had this kind of problem, or if I just got a bad pair.

look for the grain of the wood in the break...is it across the needle, if so, then i'd say they were not made well, but if the grain goes lengthwise, then maybe it was an unfortunate happening...check the grain in your other needles in the set...if it goes lengthwise, probable okay to use...in the meantime, sand off the broken end of the needle and use it for a gorgeous cable needle (i usually start with a pencil sharpener and then fine grit sandpaper or emery boards...the other end could have the same thing done to it for a second cable needle for you or a gift for a friend....
