I was looking for something in the cedar chest on Sunday when the family was at our house. Look what I found! My granddaughter is modeling (although wrinkled from being folded) a dress I smocked and her mother wore 31 years ago. My grandson is modeling 2 items I smocked for my son that we wore 31 years ago. Grandson needs to grow a tad and then they will fit. All items are in perfect condition, just need a pressing.

Adorable grandchildren and lovely smocking. My sister did a lot of smocking but I never did. What a good feeling for you to see the clothes being worn by the grandkids.

I have been an English teacher for over 30 years. Look up a local SAGA chapter in your area. (Smocking Arts Guild of America) I am sure they can direct you to a teacher. I tell my students that English smocking is 2x the fun and 1/2 the work of counted cross stitching. With the little prince sporting hand smocked English outfits, NOW is the time to learn so your grands will be equally well dressed. Many of my own outfits, worn 60 years ago have been worn through my children and now their children. I love seeing the little ones dressed in beautiful play clothes and they love showing off MaMommy's handiwork.

Hope you find a local teacher. I am in Virginia and would be happy to ask about for a teacher is your area if you are interested. It is such an easy form of fiber artistry.
