I knit a baby surprise jacket just out of curiosity, using leftover yarns. I used worsted weight and size 8 needles. I followed the pattern in EZ's "Knitting Workshop". Now, I want to make one that is about 3 inches larger in circumference, and a few inches longer. I'll do a provisional cast on so I can lengthen the sleeves. Do you think I'll be ok if I cast on about 1 1/2" additional for the body (back), add to the "10 ridge" piece (and pick up stitches accordingly), and then add extra to the final rows before the buttonholes which would add to the length and front? Is my thinking OK? I could add a few stitches to the sleeve part of the cast on as well. I know I could order the complete pattern in the 3 sizes, but kind of want to figure it out myself. I thought someone here could either confirm my plan or tell me where I have gone wrong!!! Thanks in advance. (Does EZ give a formula in "The Opinionated Knitter" for enlarging the BSJ?)

I can't tell you how to enlarge the pattern but I have a hint about the sleeves. I pick up the stitches inside the sleeve opening and knit a ribbed cuff. It looks like it comes from under the sweater and is cute that way and it makes the sleeve much longer. I usually do enough ribbing that it can be folded back on itself but also then it can be left unfolded for a really long sleeve.

Schoolhouse Press sells the patterns for three sizes - baby, child, adult - $10.50 when I purchased the patterns - have made any number of the BSJ's and my granddaughter was delighted when I found a pattern for the AG - BSJ numbers with sock yarn! Ravelry also has a group that discusses the BSJ and could make your life a lot easier. Have fun.
