I searched and searched for a pattern for a man's vest. Finally found one, only to discover that it was written for a knitting board - something I don't enjoy doing. My husband had seen the photo of the vest and liked it so I decided to try to write my own knitting pattern - still in process. I used the Moose Sweater I made last year (in my topics) to figure out the dimensions, since the gauge is quite different and just started knitting. I didn't exactly copy the fair isle pattern from the vest I found online (free download) because when I tried it I didn't like the way it looked (maybe the difference in knitting on a knitting board and knitting on needles?), so I changed that up a bit. Her are some "in progress" photos. Soon I'll have to figure out the sleeve and front decreases. I've already decided to add a front panel later, with 3 or 4 button holes.

Looks like it will be a great sweater. I love to do color work! I'm just getting brave enough to start changing things about patterns.

Tallie .... I love the things you do... I loved your sweaters with the patterns earlier and I love the vest. I love to knit, but don't know how to change back and forth with different color yarns without getting all tangled. My granddaughter wanted a snow flurries hat (not happening!).... the closest I came to it, was doing several rows of white yarn in with the teal.... It gave the same effect for a brief space. I even have a yarn organizer tote which holds 6 skeins of yarn, but I still end up with yarn all wound together.....!!!! Duh!!

Alberta: I've attached a photo. You wrap the yarn around pegs and then make your stitches by pulling the yarn off the pegs over the yarn. I've used a nifty knitter but not a knitting board. The process seems pretty much the same. Check the internet and you'll find lots of websites about them. I have met a woman who uses a sock knitting board. By the way, welcome. We were all newbies once and it is wonderful to see so many new women and men knitting and crocheting. Tallie :)

I am writing it down. I haven't always done that, but lately I've decided that going back to something I did a few years ago and trying to remember the pattern is very difficult if not impossible. So, I write as I go. This also keeps me on track for doing what I had intended in the first place because I write my thoughts about the project before ever starting it. That helped with the vest. I was at Knit Night last night and just knitting away. When I got home I realized that I would have to frog about 12 rows because I had forgotten to do the front band decreases. Fortunately I had already divided the vest at the armholes and had worked only 60 stitches on each of those rows. Live and learn. Next time I carry the "in works" pattern with me to Knit Night (unless the vest is done before next Tuesday).
