Does anybody know how or know of a link to decreasing the stitches in the feather and fan pattern for the skirt of a baby dress? The free patterns I have downloaded are straight up from the hem to the waist, and I would like more of an A-line look.
I wanted to crochet a dress in the pineapple pattern, but couldn't download the pattern I liked because it was a doc to pdf and I didn't want to mess up my settings. So I decided to knit instead and have started on the upper body part, waist up. Cast on some stitches and am doing a 3/1 rib so it will stretch. I want to make some Irish crochet roses to sew around the neckline. Then I was wondering how I am going to make the skirt and decided on feather and fan.
Thank you all in advance for any help.

I have made this f&f beret several times and the decreases are within the pattern and well designed: http://www.knittingonthenet.com/patterns/hatberetlace.htm
I like this pattern a lot and want to knit it. I have some questions that I hope you can help me with: 1. I searched for the yarn on Paton's website and couldn't find it. Is it DK weight, if not, what weight is it? 2. Do you think I could knit this in the round? 3. What cast on did you use? Thanks for your help. Aloha... Bev

Hi Bev

I have used DK each time I've made it. I have always done it in the round - take out the two k1s outside the repeat. The other change I have made is to do the band in rib as I don't like the garter stitch band - I cast on 100 sts on 3.75mm (5) needles, rib 12 rows, then increase the next row up to 152 sts and carry on from there. (Never met a pattern I didn't tweak.)

All but the brick-coloured one in this picture are from that pattern: http://www.knittingparadise.com/t-77497-1.html

Thank you sooo much for answering my questions. You did exactly what I want to do. I don't care for the garter stitch edge either. You didn't bother to pick up stitches on your cast on edge to knit the ribbing. I think I'll cast on with the Twisted German cast on, knit my inch or so of 1 x 1 ribbing, increase to the stitches for the pattern and go from there. I'm so glad to be able to benefit from your experience. Your hats are beautiful. Thanks for the link to your work. Thanks again for your info. Aloha... Bev
