Really cool, but how did you get the Mohawk to stand erect?

I used a fairly thick bulky weight yarn and trimmed it closer than the pattern called for. I use the pattern from the book "Domiknitrix" that my daughter bought for me. It called for a thick, 1ply, yarn for the mohawk, but I couldn't find any. I almost trimmed it too far. It kind of has a Trojan look to it.
