I've seen the shorter/longer drops also called the wave stitch; I just made a long scarf in this pattern, except instead of joining the ends for an infinity scarf, I folded it in half and sewed a seam about 9" down from the center on the bind off edge to make a hood with the ends long so they wrap around. Scarves are so versatile!

I have done this drop garter stitch, but have trouble with my edges. Any suggestions. Yours is beautifully stitched.

When I do this stitch, at the end of the row after knitting the last stitch (before turning), I grab the work a few rows down and give it a little tug; that seems to even out the sides nicely.
