I just wanted to mention how excited I have been with Joann's Big Twist skeins. I have used 3 skeins, so far, and each time find the end easily.
Each time there has been 1, yes 1, loop standing out a bit from the rest. Can you believe it has been the end each time? Maybe just luck, but it
sure would be nice if it wasn't!

Lucky you! Most times I have to dig into skeins, like I'm digging for gold...

It's a mixed blessing but I have to wind all my yarn so it's never problem for me. I usually go from the outside in, but if I decide to center pull, I never have to worry about yarn vomit because I wound the cake myself.

Have you used the variegated? I bought a skein of the baby version, and found it had 4 color,s but 2 were the majority of the skein.

I've been having great success by finding the outside yarn strand, tucking it under the wrapper, and going to the opposite side to find the center yarn strand.

It would seem that yarn factories do not know that most people like to pull from the centre. I've always done it as then the ball of yarn does not roll around the floor getting dirty. Neither does it get tangled in furniture legs. Once upon a time there was no problem with this. Some companies used to attach a little tag which said "work from this end". That was so wonderful.

This is what I do when looking for my center pull in purchased balls of yarn: Fierst I look for a yarn that appears not to belong and is coming from the outside and tucked into the center. Pull it out to confirm it's coming from the outside. Then I dig into the opposite end to find my center-pull yarn. Works almost always to find the center-pull strand.

I find that Red Heart also has a little end sticking out the end of a skein.
Very helpful!
Red Heart always had the inside end sticking out when I was a kid, but I haven't seen that on theirs or any other brand for years. I once wrote to Lion Brand to ask why they couldn't make that end easier to find, and got a condescending reply, implying that I wasn't too bright, because you simply reach in, feel for the end, and pull it out.

I have spinal stenosis, and have little or no feeling in my legs and hands, but I wasn't comfortable explaining that to someone with a patronizing attitude.

Don't most of you have trouble with yarn vomit? I try to remember to always work from the outside. Just lay it on the couch next to me, or tuck it vertically into the side of the chair--the vertical works even better!
Grandi15, sorry for the not-so-nice reply from Red Heart--probably some young thing who's never thought of us grandmas with physical challenges.
