Morning fellow KPers,

I got this idea stuck in my head and need to get it out so I can move on and get to work on making more dolls for my next flea market event, and so I am posting it here to get your take on as to whether I should pursue it or not.

I have over 50 "Vintage" sewing patterns from the 30s, 40s, 50s, 60,s etc and am thinking to make and sell them at flea markets and fairs. What do you think? Should I go with it or stick to more modern dolls?

Some of the dolls I want to make are:

Betty Boop and Baby Boop
Popeye, Olive Oyl and Sweet Pea
Dagwood and Blondie
the Pajama Bag Clown doll
Shirley Temple
Little Lulu
Alice in Wonderland
Dance with me Dolly (44" tall)
Sun Bonnet Sue
Kewpie doll
Lil Red Riding Hood
and of course Raggedy Ann and Andy

plus I have lots of patterns on dolls representing countries dressed in vintage costumes: France, Italy, Germany, Scotland, etc.

I am happy to be seeing so many "go for its" because I too love vintage. Of course now I have to learn how to sew, but I have books and can learn from those. I do have a sewing machine that I never used, well nows the time!! I love knitting but I need to find a faster way to make dolls otherwise if I knit them I won't have that many dolls ready for my next show.

I hadn't expected to sell all my dolls at that last flea market event which was my first selling experience, ever - all 18 of my dolls sold; I don't have a one left. So I almost HAVE to go with sewing because it is as I said before, faster. I will still be knitting dolls but those will go to my grand kids. I do well at achieving a likeness so I believe my dolls will look like who they are suppose to be representing. I will post my first sewn doll and see what you think.

I would say the vintage, I think some of the modern dolls are just not appealilng. I tried to buy a rag doll for my youngest grand daughter's third birthday last year. All the dolls for sale in the toy shops looked more like disformed monkeys or cartoon characters than nice cuddly dolls. I did buy one but was not happy with it. If I had had more time I would have made her one. But I think the grandmas and the nannas would prefer to buy a vintage doll rather than the modern ones.

Absolutely go for it.
That's what the flea market experience is all about.
Finding that treasure that you can't go to the local walmart and buy.
Wish I could come.

Sounds like a plan! Ok then, I will run with it and see how it goes at flea markets. I will post pictures of each doll I make.

Also Linday, I will get back to you when I get to Betty and Baby Boop. It may be awhiule tho because I still have to figure how to read the patterns. But I will persevere!

Thanks everybody for your kind encouragement!

hugs,
Dusty
