Fyi, no one here feels it’s their job to help with dishes though I complain often & have not done them for 2-3 days to see if anyone stepped up, They did not👎🏻.

I would be keeping one clean plate just for me and keeping it well hidden, then when clean plates run out for the rest of the family they would either get the message, do the dishes, eat off a paper plate or go without food.

I wonder how long you could leave the dirty dishes there before someone would jump in & help? When there were no more clean dishes??? My DD does all the cooking now & often does all the dishes after supper - but sometimes she is tired or gets interested in something on TV - then I try to finish them up in the am. Even when it was just DH & me, I often had more energy to do them in the am - so I let them sit overnight!

When DH was healthy, he was really a very helpful soulmate - cooked AND cleaned up! I was blessed, I guess

Seems that all the chores - budgeting, shopping, cleaning, cooking, etc. - are all YOURS! What about the others?? Maybe you need to go on strike! hahaha:D:ROFLMAO:!

Beautiful snow scenes here after the storm. Lovely!

Keep the faith!

don't waste your time complaining to them, they obviously just brush you off, TELL them what you need and expect and stop picking up and doing for other "adults ". if they get tired of paper plates and solo cups maybe they will get the message

I support Nitnana's idea of you going on strike. Don't complain or spring it on them. Tell the family so they know ahead of time which week you choose for your "annual vacation". Pick a good week for YOU and don't worry if it isn't convenient for them. Maybe plan to be someplace else or stay at home. Then take it!

That week: no errands, no dishes, no vacuuming, no laundry. You can read and crochet and do and eat whatever you want.. (Be sure to hide the foods that you want to have for only yourself.) Your kids go on vacations, your husband gets time off from work, and you should too because you deserve it! Remind them that even God took one day off a week to rest.

It is called self care and is important for one's health -- physical and emotional. Sometimes the planning and anticipating can be the most fun of the whole project. Maybe you can spend some of the week with girlfriends, enjoying long lunches together, or even go on a road trip with them. Can you overnight with that grandson at his house? Be your own best friend!!!!!!!

I would get rid of the paper plates and disposable cups. They are expensive and promote lazyness.

You obviously have a dish washer, so how hard is it for them, to fill the dish-washer, and turn it on, AND, then empty it afterwards.......You do too much for the other members of your family and spoil them......give them a wake up call, with some ultimatums..

I get very angry when I read some of your posts. You have two adult children living in your home. Unless they are paying the standard rent rate and also contributing to your grocery budget, they need to get off their kiesters and help. You apparently do everyone's laundry, fold it and probably at least put it on their bed if you don't actually put it where it belongs in each individual's room. Their idea of because you are home, you should be their maid is a big bunch of crap. My kids were cleaning the bathrooms, and their own rooms and taking turns doing the dishes from 10 years old. It is going to be mighty hard to ever get them to act like adults now after all these years of coddling. It also sounds like you get absolutely no encouragement from DH either. I hope it isn't too late for them to start treating you with the respect that you deserve.

Mine too, including their share of laundry and simple dinners for the whole family. In our family it was called Life Skills and important to me that they learned this before they left home. BTW, each child left within weeks of graduating from high school and they felt well prepared to face the world!

My kids started helping me with household chores when they were old enough to be helpful. Each child had a certain chore to do each day and the chores were rotated so everyone got to do something different each week. Maybe you should post a list of chores for your family and see if that would help. If not, then either leave it undone or do it yourself and complain (not that it will do any good if it hasn't yet).

Family will take advantage if you let them. Don't let them.

Oh, I am sorry to hear that you are not getting any help at home. You can always vent to us, and we are here to listen. I hope that you will be able to make even one small change in what you do and stick to it, so that the family members will be encouraged to make a few changes too in the direction of helping you out. 💗
