Hi,
I have just started knitting again since my grand-daughter was born. My daughter-in-law is SO impressed that she wants me to knit for her too. I'm not a brilliant knitter - but as she is someone who doesn't have a clue about knitting, she thinks I am!
She has found a 1940's pattern and wants me to knit her a jumper. However, the problem I now have is that it is for size 34" in 3ply wool. She needs the jumper to be 39" and I am not sure how to size it up. I have thought about 4ply or double knitting and bigger needles, but don't know about increasing the stitches. Any advice out there?
Regards, Ericka

Hello there. There are many sources on line to guide you to resize the pattern. For example try http://www.knitty.com/archiveTBP.php. A friend recently made a lovely 1940's style top from a genuine vintage pattern book. She decided to use 4 ply yarn as it was slightly quicker to work with. She did do a tension square as well, as the original brand of yarn wasn't available, so she did adjust needle size too. She also realised her garment needed to be longer on the body as we all appear to be getting bigger (all over it seems) as the generations go by. I wish you luck. It is great when someone thinks you are amazing with your ability. Enjoy the flattery. xx

Hi Val,
I hope you enjoyed your trip to Dundee. I nearly went in this morning to buy wool, but got side-tracked with gathering in the tomatoes. Must go in tomorrow, as I've got a deadline for the 1940's jumper.

Hello Frogger,
It is indeed a small world! I am surprised how many replies I have had since I joined this group, so far apart, with the same interest. Does your colleague ever return to Dundee?
