I have come accross a beautiful filet crochet teacloth on www.antiquepatternlibrary.org. However there is a stitch that I am not familiar with "1/2 sp or half space" can't find anything on Google can anyone help please.

I believe it would be...instead of making a complete space you would do another dc in the same stitch. This makes an increase
In fact if you notice on row 2, it explains it

Ah I see now it's the increase on the row ends/beginning. Thank you for your help.

It is just as I thought. Their spaces are made of dc and skip two chains then another dc. To do the half space you would do another dc right next to the one just done to fill in half the space.
