Ready in under 30 minutes
Savory hamburger steaks are topped with a rich mushroom and caramelized onion gravy. Serve over mashed potatoes or your favorite starch.
Ingredients
1 pound lean ground beef
salt and freshly ground pepper
1 teaspoon butter
1 medium onion, diced
1 cup sliced mushrooms (button, Portobello)
5 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon flour
1 1/2 cup beef stock
1 teaspoon red wine vinegar
Directions
Form the ground beef into equal-sized patties. Season lightly with salt and pepper.
Meanwhile, heat a large non-stick skillet over medium heat.
Add the hamburger steaks and cook for 4-5 minutes per side or until cooked through.
Remove from the pan and set aside. Drain any excess fat from the pan.
Add the butter to the skillet and reduce the heat to medium-low.
Add the onions and cook, stirring frequently, until soft and lightly browned, about 10 minutes.
Add the sliced mushrooms and garlic to the pan. Cook, stirring frequently, until the mushrooms are soft.
Sprinkle the mushroom mixture with the flour. Stir to combine. Stir in the beef stock and vinegar until well mixed.
Let cook, stirring frequently, until the sauce has thickened.
Return the hamburger steaks to the pan. Cook long enough to heat them thoroughly.
Serve the hamburger steaks topped with the mushroom gravy.
