It is the flying pig on ravelry, although mine isn't going to be a pig. The instruction is K1, M1, K1 etc. I thought M1 was make 1 but this doesn't make sense. It is on three dbl point needles. Am I missing something? Or am I brain dead as I suspect. This is such a simple thing I know.

I've had a look now and it is make 1 as you go from 3 to 5 sts per needle.
I think it will be the lift the bar between the needles and place on the left hand needle, then knit through the back of the stitch type of M1, that way you keep the fabric nice and tight.

Hilary so it is an increase using the middle bar? I have never done socks and I think this is a technique for socks right? I should have looked at the Youtube example before I opened my mouth but I wanted to make sure this is what it is for sure.

Yes, it can be used for socks.
It is a nearly invisible increase and won't leave a hole from the stuffing to escape from.

I believe you are right. Thats how I read it also.
