I'm doing a tuck stitch cardi for my granddaughter and I'm at the stage of attaching the sleeve. The pattern tells you to take the sleeve off on waste yarn so I have 61 stitches to put back on the machine. The only problem is that when I put the cardi back on from the markers that are on the front and back there's at least an extra 20 stitches. Help!!! Do I ignore the markers and just pick up 61 stitches so it's the same as the Sleeve?

I thought I was doing so well should have known better lol

Not quite sure what you mean? If it is a drop shoulder, then the measurement across top of sleeve should be the same as between the markers. If it is set in sleeve head, then you will also need to pick up sts from where you cast off/decreased for sleeve head as well as the live sts

The pattern tells you to knit so far up the back then place a marker each end of the row then to carry on knitting rest of the back and cast off, the sleeves are taken off on waste yarn. The problem that I had was there were 61 live stitches on the sleeve but when I placed the back and front of the cardi on the knitting machine there were at least 20 more stitches available between the markers. I've ended up ignoring the markers and putting it on the same amount of the sleeve stitches which looks ok

When you rehang the body, you are hanging rows, not stitches. The rows should measure a certain number of inches (or cm).

The stitch you have used, tuck, makes the fabric wider. the 60 or 61 stitches should measure a certain number of inches (or cm) and that should be the same number of inches or cm that the body measured.

Use all of the space between the markers, and spread out the stitches from the sleeve. You might have to pick up a stitch or part of one below or between the live stitches of the sleeve so that you do not appear to have a hole.

We frequently have to "mooch" stitches or rows to make our stitches match the rows.
