I just followed your link and read the full directions. Think about the way you usually bind off. You must have worked TWO stitches before you can bind off the first one. You pick up the first stitch, bring it over the second one (on your right hand needle) and drop the first one over the point of the needle. Then you work another stitch so that , once again, there are two stitches on the right hand needle. Repeat the pick up and drop.

These directions allow you to do the same thing while maintaining the herringbone pattern.

I suggest that you knit a practice swatch.......10 stitches? 3 rows? Try to follow the directions, doing exactly what they say. You'll see that when you follow the first direction you'll end up with two stitches on the needle so that you can drop off one. The *repeat* adds one stitch to the right hand needle so that you can drop off another one.

Good luck!
