I was sitting down minding my own business, just measuring the back of a knitted cardigan, had one of the knitting needles resting in my mouth, leaned forward to get measuring tape AND wham pointed needle hit the roof of my mouth - its just stopped bleeding

cant believe I did that !!!

Had to laugh at this...once you said you were ok.

Put my needled in my mouth all the time...surprised I didnt do this yet.

to cleanse the wound and kill the pain. You can't be too careful. Hope it doesn't hurt too much and if it does have another drink.

Please do be careful. That could have been drastically more serious or even fatal.

Permanent fix-go to circular needles-no need to put the needle in your mouth and you will never drop one. Easier on hands and wrists especially with larger projects. Something to think about.

I have done this, also. The funny thing is that just before I jammed it into the top of my mouth, I thought, "I shouldn't have this in my mouth. I might jam it in the top of my mouth. If only I would listen to my intuition

What a horrible thing to happen to you, and quite frightening! I'm so glad that you are okay and it could have been worse.

Please go to the doctor anyway, and get this checked out to make sure no damage, blood poisoning, infections, etc.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and do be careful.

Holding warm tea in your mouth is one of the BEST things to do with any kind of wound in the mouth. It is VERY, VERY healing and has some anesthetic properties for pain as well. Just plain ole black tea.

Needle in mouth? Needle in hair? How about setting it on a table, next to where you're sitting while you knit, or even on the floor? I've never thought of my body (parts) as the place to put a knitting needle. And perhaps a tetanus shot would be a good idea.

Just to be careful not to get infection there! Maybe rinse with a little warm salt water, too.

Must have been something in the stars last night as I too leaned over to unplug the lamp cord from the wall when I toppled over to the side and fell on my hip. That never happened b4 so I slept thru the night w/an ice pack.... I'm ok now.

I shouldn't think there is a knitter who hasn't done this at some time. Best thing to do is have a stiff drink and lots of chocolate!!!

Oh My Gosh! I thought I was the only person in the world to do that! I'm really sorry about your wound, but am feeling so much better about myself!!!!! It's nice to know I am not alone!!!

Ouch! I bet anything it was a straight needle...I gave those up for good after squirming in an armchair and having the tip of the needle catch on the arm of the chair and jab the skin just below my eye. Straight needles should be handled with caution in tight spaces!

That is why I need to invent a needle holder so we don't need to use our mouths, hair or lose them in the sofa cushions. I'm working on it.

If I don't want needles to go astray while I do something - even getting another ball of wool, I stick the needles into the ball I'm using. They are secure and no risk of hurting myself.

How about one of the pocket things that hang over the arm of your chair or sofa? I have one that was intended for a book (or remote control). It works for needlework.

... ive done that nasty before, so i stopped holding needle in mouth and have now resorted to holding needle in my hair/hair bun (like Chinese style hair sticks.) so this way, my needles wont hurt my mouth ever again or so they dont get lost down the side of my lounge... lol just remember needle is in hair, to avoid another booboo.

i know people that put their pencil in their hair until some one bent over one day and the pencil fell out into a child's face

I sat on a needle once. OUCH. Never again, I'm a quick learner.
