I'm thinking of knitting an afghan from Homespun yarn. I know a lot of you must have made them. Where did you find a good pattern? I've been looking for a good pattern book or booklet but can't seem to find one. Also how do you feel about working with homespun?

The best source is the lionbrand site since they are the manufacturer and know how best to use their yarn.

I haven't used it in a long time since I found it was difficult to knit with. It stuck to the end of the needle and "split" when trying to add stitches.

I have made about 10 afghans with the # 50 needles and Homespun. Everyone loved them and some requested more for their family members. I didn't find it hard to knit with and I well be doing more for the coming Christmas

I have knitted several afghans with the homespun yarn and also knitted several prayer shawls with it. It is soft and it is easy to work with on number 13 knitting needles. Have to make sure you put a knot in the end of the yarn so it doesn't unravel. Lion brand website has several patterns for making the afghans.

I made a shawl with Homespun using #15 needles. I like the yarn but I found the #15 cumbersome to work with. I can't imagine using #50! I'll be your afghans are really soft.

I've also made scarves with Homespun and they are very soft. Seems that people either love or hate the Homespun yarn.

I made a poncho and a scarf with homespun and couldn't wait to complete them as I found it very uncomfortable to work with. The results were fabulous but I would think twice before I attempt another project with homespun. You cannot make fringe with homespun as it unravels. Being that it has a "curly" consisitency, a plain garter stitch would work fine.

Ooooh, there's a nice easy one on size 19's. (35" circs) I used 2 strands of Homespun (Deco & Pearls) and two strands of RHSS in Aran. CO 62 & do a few rows of seed st then go as long as you want with stockinette st (keeping the first and last 3 sts as seed st for border). Finish up w/same number rows border as at beg. I've also made a red one and 5 other ones. Classic and simple, thick and warm. Original idea was from Patons, it was called Multi Strand Afghan. They have tassels but I don't bother with those. The Homespun is so soft. I think I used 585 yds of each color.

I have used Homespun to make 3 different afghans on a knitting board. The result is a double knit with none of the catching and splitting problems mentioned here from the use of needles.

The afghans are warm and durable and look wonderful!

I crocheted an afghan with it and it was awful... pulled and stretched and was very difficult to crochet with. BUT.. that being said... I have heard that knitting with it is a different story... that it knits easy and the end results are very nice. Ihave yet to try it.

I had read all the negative comments about the home spun and was a little hesitant to pick some up.. but the colors were perfect to go with another yarn I had and I needed the thick yardage.. so I did it.. and I am having a wonderful time with the yarn. I am using Susan Bates Quick Silver needles.. the tips are nice and pointy with out being too sharp.. It just tells me that when others don't like something doesn't mean I don't... and vise a versa...
