Hi! I am seeing some cute little girl hats in some boutiques. I saw one with a large single horizontal cable in the middle of the hat. Does anyone have this pattern? Thanks a bunch..... Linda

I make these, it is a very simple pattern. You cast on using provisional method. Knit the hat sideways until it is the size you need and then use the kitchener stitch to join. I will try to write the pattern for you, but I have never written a pattern for public viewing. I found a couple patterns and used them to figure it out. Ravelry has a few, the link is below, along with the other two I used.

This is a good one- http://tiajudy.com/braidcap.htm

This is my basic pattern:
This was for a 1 and 3 year old, adjust stitches for hat height as needed.
Using a provisional cast-on; cast-on 43(57) stitches.
Row 1 (WS): K20,P15,K2,K6
Row 2 (RS): K6,P2,K5,C10B,P20
Row 3: K20,P15,K2,K6
Row 4: K6,P2,K5,C10B,P20
REPEAT THESE 4 ROWS UNTIL DESIRED LENGTH

When you reach desired length (2 inches less then head size.) Join with a kitchener stitch. This is a good video:
The written version: http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEsummer04/FEATtheresasum04.html

C10F: Slip next 5 sts to cable needle (or spare double-point needle)
and hold to front of work; K5, K5 from cable needle
C10B: Slip next 5 sts to cable needle (or spare double-point needle)
and hold to back of work; K5, K5 from cable needle

I have posted a reply on this, with a pattern. It looks like for the ear flap they crocheted them on. Hope this helps.
