Went to run myself a bath this morning, only to find I had to wash it out first, I shouldn't be suprised neither DH or DS ever clean the bathroom but I do expect them to rinse out the bath etc after they use it. So went downstairs to find pots in the sink and on the worktop, mud on the floor and trailed through the house (that one is DS) and a pile of wet dirty washing in front of the washer (they both went fishing last night).

Not sure if they slept late this morning or what but sure looks like they left in a hurry, guess what I'll be doing this morning??

How annoying. I think you'll have to have a severe word with them. My DH never puts anything in the bin. He uses the excuse he doesn't understand the reycycling rules. As he does all the cooking I kind of let it pass.

I'd write out the rules and stick them to the wall!

Filling bin bags, leaving them outside and changing the locks? Seriously, I know what you'll be doing, and would love to be a fly on the wall later. Hope you cook them their least favourite dinner ......

That's a thought, or I might just do their least favourite prepared but they have to put it in the oven and do the veg. Oh and then there's not managing to fit their favorite items in the wash so it has to wait till there's enough for another load. No baking as I'm too busy cleaning etc etc.

do your usual chores and then my favourite 'dish of the day' - shepherds pie.

Ingredients: Large tin of dog food
fry a load of onions. add meat. Bit of gravy if needs be.
Top with some lovely mash (packet is fine).
Cook until golden-brown.

In the meantime whilst it's cooking in the oven/under the grill write out a nice little list/warning.

This home is not a pigsty.
I am not your servant.
Please leave as you expect to find.

Put this on the washing-machine:
Put in me your filthy clothes
powder/conditioner and off we go!
When I've finished take it out!!!
that's unless you want to go without!!!!!

ps....as old as you are, you're not too old for a clout.
xxx your loving wife/mother.

How's that?

Perhaps I should thank them lol. Bathroom is cleaned, because I did it first. Washed up and cleaned the kitchen before I could even have a cup of tea, and the mud on the floor looked worse than it was a quick sweep with the dyson and steam mop over it and it's all clean. Just waiting for the washer to finish and I'll be all done. DH has normally phoned me by now, as he hasn't he must think he's going to have an ear full. Think I'll let him stew.

gingjan love your recipe.

You already cleaned it up. Good!

Make a list of everything you had to do, just so they know.

Tell them now, while everything's clean, that you will NEVER do it again.

Warn them now that everything found soiled, or where it doesn't belong, you will assume is rubbish. You will dispose of it as you see fit but it won't be there when they get back.

Training starts early. Your mother in law didn't educate your husband properly. Now you run the risk of carrying that philosophy through to your son, because he will pick up bad habits from his father. Ugh. Bad news for his future wife. It should stop now!

It's sad that most of the men of our species need this kind of guidance. Anyone ever read Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus? As John Gray says (and unless your guy is a designer or decorator, this is mostly true), men would be content living in a cave if it weren't for women requiring something else!
