Bummsie! I got all excited when I read your caption because I thought someone was actually going to come and visit! Just come and we'll find things to show and do together. jberg
p.s. We've got historical things, cultural places, great museums with one of a kind items, art centers, parks, rivers, a working incline, tunnels and bridges, cultural and ethnic diversity, shops, sports and lots more.

Your town, city or country tomorrow so what would be the ONE thing you would recommend I must see??
Last year I traveled virtually (since I can no longer leave my house due to health issues). First stop was Australia, where I "saw" many wonderful sights during four months there. Then, two months in Portugal, followed by two months in Finland, and the rest of the year in South America (mostly Argentina and Chile). I printed pictures of places and peoples and foods and journaled it all. I read their newspapers as best I could without subscribing. It's made me more aware of what is happening in places other than my home town and turned out to be quite enriching. My first stop that started it all? Visitng Anne in Bundaberg! Then, I found a couple other KPers around the world. I called my journal "The Year I Could Not Travel". It was a fun project as well as a learning one.

But to answer your question, I live out in the country, but I'd suggest you spend a day at the Space Needle in Seattle. The view from the top is spectacular, especially if it is clear and you can see Mount Rainier!

California is beautiful all around. Lake Tahoe, San Francisco, Monterey, Carmel, Yosemite, the Muir Forest, the Avenue of the Giants, and, of course, Sacramento. An infinity of places to visit, walk, take a boat, wineries. California is big and great. Come and visit, please. You won’t regret it.

In Chicago, the Architectural Center's Boat Tour on the Chicago River past some of the architectural wonders of the city. We like to take out of town guests. Of course, it only runs during the summer. I highly recommend, just remember your sunscreen.

Well i agree with you..dumb move. I was born in Toronto, lived here all my 76 years and love my city but when hubby and i needed some time to ourselves we would drive to Montreal and walk the streets of Old Montreal, enjoy the foods and always took buggy rides around the old town. What a shame to take that experience away for all to enjoy!! The view from Mount Royal is beautiful for sure but even better by horse and buggy!!
It was wonderful in winter, when the buggy wheels were on removable runners to glide soundlessly on the snow, while everyone aboard was nestled under an antique buffalo robe.

Sadly, no longer. Our unloved mayor banned the horse-drawn vehicles a few years ago. Some things she’s done are good, but that was a really dumb move, in my opinion.
I am on the side of the horses here they had to travel amongst all the cars, trucks etc and the city crowds, Often the owner /drivers were cruel. One horse dropped dead in a busy street. I am so glad they have been banned!

Well, I live in the Boston area and if you came here you might want to walk the Freedom Trail and see sites from the American Revolution. Maybe a visit to the Museum of Fine Arts or the Boston Symphony? Or maybe a trip to Cape Cod would be more up your alley. You might want to come in the fall to enjoy the foliage. Let me know when you’re coming and I’ll show you the sights 😉

People drop dead in public places too. Shall we ban them?
Horses who might have continued working for many years were - mostly - consigned to the glue factory (or shipped overseas as meat-on-the-hoof). Very few were adopted or retired to rescue organizations.
The area where their stables had been has been bought by big developers, and will sprout expensive high-rise condo buildings.
Cynic that I am, the whole thing wasn’t about what was best for the horses or their dedicated owners, but about creating housing which would generate more property taxes for the city. If, in the distant future, it were to be revealed that our mayoress had received payment for getting the buggy rides banned, it wouldn’t surprise me a bit.

In the areas where they used to work, traffic is at a walking speed at best. The streets in the old (i.e. historic) part of town are barely three cars wide. Curb lanes are crammed with parked cars; middle lane is very slowly moving traffic. The streets are all one-way. No big vehicles can fit, so horses were safe from them. Those narrow streets were laid out in horse-and-buggy times, long before motorized vehicles were more than imagined.

It’s sad that our city has lost its trollies and horses. It’s unlikely either will ever return.

Thank you to everyone for taking me on a whirlwind trip around the world. I will be looking up a lot of your suggestions and doing some arm chair travelling. Apart from some of the Canadian suggestions ( I lived in Toronto in 1967) and attended EXPO 67 in Montreal which is a beautiful place to visit, have travelled by train from Montreal to Vancouver. If you came to my town I would highly recommend a trip to Phillip Island to see the penguin parade at dusk.
