Hi Everyone:
I just got back from my friend's house she is also left handed. After watching all kinds of videos' on knitting straight with a circular needle, I still needed to see her do it. So, I'm sticking to this baby blanket and not giving up.

I think one will always have problems with boucle, fuzzy yarn, no matter what pattern you use. It tends to stick to itself and is almost impossible to rip out. Good for you for not giving up!

Don't feel bad....I'm making a baby blanket also and knitted when I should have purled....thought I could fix it, and boy did I make a mess. I had a life-line in, and thought I'd do ok. I got all 127 stitches back onto the needles and noticed I have a dropped stitch. I decided since I HATE the cheap circular needles I'm using so much I will wait until my new HARMONY needles arrive and then try and put the 127 stitches on them and see if they might bring me better Karma : ). You are NOT alone.

i have just finished the third row of a dark brown section of an aran sweater...i've lost count of how many tries it took me to get it there...very complicated pattern and i think i forgot to move my markers and then I had to buy more yarn.....it took 3 weeks to get here and by the time i sat down to start the new color last night, i was in real trouble....i think i have it now and have even gone to the 'back' and taken it to the same place so that i don't have to figure it out again when i finish the front....you just have to laugh somewhere around the 4 time you take it out....i've been knitting for approx 55 yrs? and i'm sure this has been around 12-14 re-starts, total.....i'd lol if i wasn't so tired of counting...

I too have done the ribbet ribbet ribbet on those intricate patterns and made the decision a few years back to knit in the round doing both the back and front with no seams (just markers) and found it much easier following each pattern row only one time rather than weeks later when getting to the next piece. I also do both sleeves at the same time. (a sneaky way to make sure they are both the same length LOL) Can't wait to see the work in progress.

I'm making an afghan with a boucle yarn, and even though it's a simple basketweave pattern I've lost count of the number of times I've had to undo and reknit sections of it. I'm not following the pattern row by row (which is probably my problem) - I just have the concept of it in my head, but it's so hard to see the stitches and mistakes that I would normally catch immediately don't become apparent to me until rows later. Then my circular needle came apart and dropped off almost the whole width. At that point I just wove some yarn through to save the stitches and put it aside in favor of a hat I've wanted to start. Unfortunately it's for a very dear friend who chose the pattern and yarn so I'll have to get back to it eventually - I'd just as soon scrap the whole thing. My mother taught me that if you make 3 mistakes in a session, just put your project away and come back to it - if you don't, you'll just keep making more mistakes. I've certainly found that to be true.

I bought that yarn for an entire baby outfit....then decided to just do a garter stitch baby afghan and then crochet a contrasting color around the edges...I was so glad when it was done...my needle was always splitting the threads. It is beautifully soft now that it's all done. Hang in there.

yep, me too, i like to make those pairs (sox, sleeves, gloves, mittens) at the same time...i have lots of needles and it's usually not a problem to just work at the same time...the sad thing about this is that I HAVE a circ ndl, working flat, with dozens of color-coded markers...see pic...my problem came in with the actual row i was on...i knit, move the magnet, knit the back row (not much detail) and then the marker is ready for me....but i think i forgot to move the magnet, so what with the unpatterned color change row and not being able to see the pattern as well and then the magnet was in the wrong place........as i said..........maybe a dozen tries later i'm on my way.....i connected so much with the girl who put the original pic on this topic....you're never too old to mess up....the good thing is no one will know when i get it done...thx for the 'atta girl'....sometimes you just need to take a breath and step away...here is the pic of the front and back...now just imagine 3 rows of dark brown.....lol

For whatever troubles this has given you, it is going to be wonderful when finished. This isn't a race we are in, it is supposed to be an enjoyable pursuit. Step back, make a cup of tea (or whatever beverage you would like), and put the knitting aside.
That's what I did, and the kitchen floor is now clean.
Fun? Nah, but I feel better with it done.
Knitting will be my reward when my chores are done!

Here's a tip for picking up dropped or ripped stitches. Use a smaller size needle to pick them up. The smaller needle goes into the loose stitches much easier than the needle size being used. Then just knit the stitches off the smaller needle with the correct size. It will still be the right size stitch when finished. (I need to remember to keep a size 1 needle in with the socks I'm working on all the time! I use a 2 for the socks)

Have you ever tried knitting two booties, or mittens, or other small items on the same needle with two separate balls of yarn? Makes counting easier since you only have to figure out the row one time, and you're sure that both pieces are exactly the same......
That's only if you don't mind working with two balls of yarn!

I try to do everything that is a pair at the same time. Then if I make a minor error, they are the same and I can pass it off as a decorative stitch,

Sometimes I may have added an extra row of one color, etc.
But it took awile to get used to having the 2 balls of yarn.

I've made several things with the Baby Clouds and admit is a pain to work with. However, the receivers rave about how wonderful it looks and feels. Think I've used most of it up and have many other yarns waiting in the wings for projects. I've been knitting off and on all my life and still make mistakes and have to rip out. I know from other friends how hard it is for left-handers--but I'm sure you'll persevere.
