I took out my knitting needles from storage and decided this year I would learn more. Does anyone have a pattern for something small that can teach me something new? I really need to learn more about slipping stitches, increases, decreases...that kind of thing. I did a simple cable stitch in a scarf and loved it once I got the hang of it.

I just learned Entrelac. I have made a scarf, hat and am starting a sweater. There are lots of free patterns and tutorials on the web. My advise, learn to backwards knit if you are going to do Entrelac, saves all that turning.

I've made swatches of new patterns or techniques I wanted to learn, then stitched them to cardstock and bound with a large binder ring. Makes a great reference book, just remember to write down all the particulars. I've also taken some of the better swatches and framed them, they look fabulous on the walls in my studio.

Great idea...and a good way to use leftover yarn. A win win!

Sailor Ray,
Barbara G Walker has several books on knitting patterns that have been put on the internet. if you do a search with her name you will find the walker project with alot of knitted stitch variations. Just for fun run a search for knitted skeleton and another for crochet coral reef project, These projects are amazing. Good luck and happy knitting!

After 40 years of knitting and crocheting, I tried something new myself. It's called mosaic or slip-stitch knitting. It was easy to learn and I made a decorative scarf as a gift.

What great ideas. Also since you have done cables, designing your own Aran sweater or afghan is really fun. Modular, entrelac, slip stitch, double knitting are all challenging. Iris Schreier wrote a book, Modular Knits, that uses short row shaping to create beautiful garments and accessories I want to knit the spuare hole cardigan, It really is gogeous and challenging too.

Go on You Tube & type in what ever it is you want to learn, i.e. knitting increases & decreases, entrelac, backwards knitting etc... & lots of stuff comes up for you to view and learn from. Yona

Hi,

Try your hand at making an Entrelac scarf, there is a challenge once mastered will keep you intrigued.

Best of luck,
Jan :)
I went online and found this scarf. I don't know if I'm quite ready for it yet, but the stitches look pretty simple....what is M1? This is the site that I found for one. Thanks....Rae
