Last week as I finished my current WIP, (yes, I'm one of those who only has one on the needles at once.....sickening I know, just don't ask about the sewing up.... ) I wanted something small on the go while watching the Olympics and
had just discovered a pattern for a leaf square done on dpns......well, maybe it wasn't a great idea to have my first attempt on dpns as something that started with 8 stitches divided between 4 needles...  talk about a bamboo spider.....and while watching TV??? What was I thinking....however, I tinked a little, but no frogging  and these pix are the result! I have made 4 out of the 6 squares it will take to make a little bassinette/pram cover.
It's a free pattern on Ravelry, type "leaf counterpane square" in the search box, there are only a few on the page.

It's gorgeous!

Many of the counterpanes I've seen are triangles sewn together to make squares and are a seaming nightmare (for me). It looks like this one is knit in the 'round' to make up a square (no seams). Is this right?

This would eliminate much of the seaming and make it less daunting for sure.

I still can't believe this is your first venture with DPNs. There IS hope for the rest of us!

Gorgeous. I found the pattern but it doesn't have the beautiful edging you did on yours. That makes all the difference. Would you share your secret? :)

Yes, knitted in the round! I had wanted to make one of these covers, but was put off by the thought of sewing all those triangles together .....

call it coincidence, but I had bought a set of dpns which had 5 needles in, without even realising that a 'normal' set is only 4. And the square needs 5, as you have 4 sides and work with the 5th!
Makes me feel a lot more confident about tackling socks......which was really why I bought the dpns in the first place!

This is the link to the one I used, (same edging)

Thanks so much. I was looking at the one next to it called Four-leaf counterpane. Yours is just gorgeous.
