Funny story as we all shop clearance. My husband's SIL found a knit bikini kit on clearance. Since she needed a 50's bday gift for a friend, she thought it would be cute to say you may be old enough to sit in a rocking chair and knit but you are still hot enough to wear a bikini. (No insult meant by all of us knitters being little old ladies) Everyone had a good laugh. 6 months later, my husband's brother severely injured his knee and had 90 days of leg immobility. SIL's friend gave the bikini kit to him and said now that you have the time, why don't you knit it up. I took the kit and DID knit it. (can't imagine anyone ever wearing it) and it was given back to the original recipient with, 'now you have to model it'. Larry said he taught himself to knit. I played naive. Who would have ever thought everyone would have so much fun with a silly clearance kit.

I can only imagine what would happen if some one actually wore it in the water!! Too much sag in more ways than one for that!!!

Way back when, a friend knitted a bikini for her 13 yr old daughter who had been begging for it. Was told she could only wear it at home. First time she wore it, it stretched and stretched...she went back down into the water screaming and her face was as red as the bikini! Of course it's one of those stories we bring up at opportune times!!!

Yep years ago a friends daughter begged NON STOP for me to make her one. OK I did and guess what? They aren't water proof. LOLOLOLOL It was cute for sun bathing but OMG when you add water it just grows and grows and grows.

Gosh did we have the last laugh.

Happy to hear another bikini story. Thanks for sharing.

Years ago I knit a bikini & believe me, YOU DON'T WANT TO WEAR IT IN THE WATER!!! Talk about sag, I almost didn't have a suit after coming out of the water. After that, I only wore the suit for sun bathing.

Great story.... that's what makes life fun.. silly things. My gramma and grandpa and great aunt and uncle (sisters married brothers) anyway for over 40 years they would give the same birthday card and have the best laugh over that funny birthday card. Great times they had.

Hand knit swimming costumes were common when I was a child but they were called sun-suits and we only wore them in the garden at home. Once kids reached 13 we all refused to wear the things. When they were wet, the word stretch was an understatement. We used to call them "Super saggies" and oh! I did wish that my Grandma, would not make me a new one each summer. It would only fit where it touched
