I just finished knitting a scarf for my granddaughter, using Red Heart Team Spirit, in the colors of her riding team. She has asked for 3 more for friends on the team. That is not a problem but it has been a long time since I have charted names in my work. Wondered if doing duplicate stitch afterward would be easier? Since hers is already done, she would be left out if I knitted the names in. Any suggestions would be welcome. Judi

I think that depends on how many stitches you're planning on using for the name. If just a single stitch wide, duplicate stitch would be fine; if many stitches wide, intarsia might be a better choice.

I would make them all the same, just for continuity sake. I have done both and I can't really say which I like best. You have to be careful and not carry the yarn too far if you are doing intarsia because of the buckling that happens. The other part of intarsia is hiding all the ends. You still have to hide ends with duplicate but it doesn't seem like there are as many.

You can purchase monogrammed initials in almost any color at fabric stores. You might want to try this and you can always add one on your grand daughters.

That is the definition of the term 'duplicate stitch'.
