I loved this sweater as soon as i seen it and couldnt wait to start it. I think it took me a couple of evenings to do. It was so easy to do. I just have to wait till there's some little girl to give it to. Here's the pattern site.

I predict you will be knitting many more sweaters from this pattern. This "five hour sweater" is one of the most popular in use by baby charity knitters, as it is a wonderful basic pattern that knits up rather quickly using a small amount of yarn, ends up fitting beautifully and looking adorable on any baby (boy or girl) that is lucky enough to wear it. Add a basic stocking cap and your favorite booties and you've got a darling "set" to gift. This pattern is easy, too, to adjust size by yarn thickness, needle size, or number of increases through the yoke.

Hints: You can also use a contrasting color on the neck, cuffs and hem or leave out the pattern and simply do a basic stockinette pattern throughout--then create stripes with two-row repeats of two different colors (yoke only or entire sweater) Try it!! Here is another link to the basic pattern, which also includes additional pieces and ideas.

CUTE SWEATER...WHEN I FIND A PATTERN I JUST HAVE TO MAKE, I MAKE IT AND PUT IT IN WHAT I CALL MY NANA BOX. IT COMES IN HANDY WHEN I NEED SOMETHING SPECIAL FOR SOMEONES BABY SHOWER OR WEDDING GIFT. WHEN MY DAUGHTERS FRIENDS ARE HAVING BABIES ITS THE FIRST THEY PLACE GO LOOKING FOR A GIFT.

Wonderful. I down--loaded it too. I have just about that much left of several yarns.

This pattern would also be great worked in fine yarn for the premie babies to be buried in. Those suffering parents appreciate the idea of "Made with Love".

This pattern should inspire everyone to get creative and try something new after at least the first attempt or two.

Note: I've heard LOTS of knitters say "five hours" is a little optimistic. Regardless, this is not a difficult pattern and the results will boost your confidence and inspire you to do more.

To add to Carolyn's suggestion: My baby charity has been VERY appreciative of finished garments using the "five hour" pattern lengthened to gown-size for those babies who don't stay with us here on earth, but return to heaven too soon.
For these garments, several ties down the front (crocheted chain or ribbon) eliminate the need for buttons.
