I owned a shop in Cleveland, Ohio in the 80s and we did so many sweatshirt knitted yokes. I guess I neglected to save the instructions. You cut out the circle yoke in sweatshirt and then knit it back in with leftover yarns. It was so much fun and I have so much leftover yarn. Ms. Sheltsley's top link has the knitting directions. My mom made a ton of these too! I think she did some with eyelash yarn that were quite striking.

I did the same thing with T-shirts. I used lighter weight yarn and it turned out fine. Even did some with the furry yarn that was in style at the time. Once when I wore one a lady asked me if I made it and when I said "yes" she said, "I think I'll get some T-shirts and have you make me some!" Hello? I do not knit for people, anymore, so, she didn't get them. (If she had ASKED, instead of assuming I would do it, I might have made her one, but she was a pushy person so she didn't get one) I was always "too busy"

This is similar to a knitting project in my weekly knitting class this past year. We knit a cabled panel and inset it into the middle of a sweatshirt. I did the panels, have the sweatshirts, but haven't done the sewing. Think I need to finish these (2).

I hooked up with a lady back in the 80's who sold these sweatshirts at craft sales. She couldn't keep up with doing it all so I ended up making just the yokes. She let me do any colors and yarns I wanted. When I completed 15, I mailed them off, and she quickly sent a check! It was great fun, and I used up all my leftovers!

I have this pattern. I used to have one of the sweatshirts with the knitted yoke that someone made for me. I loved it. I bought the pattern from someone on this forum last year. I will check the pattern info.... after I find the pattern and will let you know.

p.s.- did a Google search for "knitted yoke sweatshirt craft leaflet" and came up with several items. I didn't find the one I have for sale, it was already sold where I looked, but there are several others. Started out with "knitted yoke sweatshirt patterns" and all sorts of things popped up, many free!

I couldn't find any info on the publisher of this booklet, ForEvers. But one of the other links was for a Leisure Arts publication. Leisure Arts is still very much alive and going and would be a good place to check. Wish I could just scan and share this, it's just a large piece of card stock printed on both sides and folded to about 9"x12" finished size. Short and sweet! On the first search I did, several links popped up for free collections of circular yoke sweaters....may just have to check that out!

I had a yarn shop in the 80's and yes, these were very popular, I made several myself. Don't have the pattern anymore. You could use the pattern for a sweater started at the neckline and knit till it covers as much of the sweatshirt as you want, then sew it to the sweatshirt. I enjoyed the subject coming up again, made me smile. What goes around comes around, soon this will be in style again.
