I have downloaded the free deramores rabbit pattern and am about to start it -I normally slip the first stitch to give a neat edge -should I do this or will it effect the look when I sew it together

I knit an extra stitch at the start and end. This allows you to use the mattress stitch when showing up. The mattress stitch makes a clean join. This is especially useful when knitting smaller iterms.

Have knitted a few rows of the leg -but was going to start again anyway so will add a couple of stitches -the legs are striped -I am using 4ply cotton and have been cutting the thread between the colour changes but the side has become uneven -have now seen another pattern using 8ply wool which probably would have been better but I have bought the cotton now -cant imagine what else I could use it for
