I just bought such an informative and interesting book at Joann's. (yes, coupon!) It is Knitting America, a glorious heritage from warm socks to high art by Susan M. Strawn. She tells the story of knitting in America through cultural developments and historical events. The book is filled with many photos, illustrations and patterns. Just excellent!

My Joann's won't let you use coupons on books.... Bummer... I'll watch for a sale... It is a beautiful book.
I just saw it on Amazon.com for $7.50 plus shipping for a "like new" hardcover. Think I'm going to get it! There are plenty more good bargains like that for the book there. Thanks for the info, I never heard of the book.

I never think to search Amazon..... but that is a great price... I'm going to take a look.... Also, for weaving books, as they are hard to find in the book stores.........

Dreamweaver, Amazon is a great place to buy books. I always check out the used section too. Many times the book is brand new. I've bought quite a few books this way, and really got some good deals. I also use it for DVD's. Good luck with your search.

Amazon is my go to place for books, especially out of print books. Got a great deal on an out of print Debbie Bliss book.

Here in California, Joanns and Michaels won't let you use coupons on books. You got a good deal!

We can't use coupons on books at Michaels, but they always accept them at Joann's.

I have a copy. I love the historical notes & photos. I think I bought it at my local thrift store. Since not too many ladies knit, Mary Lou saves all the needles, & hooks for me. I have to find the knitting books for myself, tho'. Thanx, Mary Lou!!

While on vacation years ago, I found "No Idle Hands: The Social History of American Knitting," by Anne L. Macdonald for $1.00. It's an outstanding book about knitting having an important part of American social history! Did you know knitting was taught to wounded WWI soldiers as part of their physical therapy? I didn't! As a sociology-history-knitting lover, I've been searching for more knitting-history books similar to "No Idle Hands," and looks like I found one! I'm going to Amazon.com right now and order this book! Thanks! Any more suggestions on knitting-history books???
