Today Disney Jr was on TV as it is most mornings with the kids. On Playhouse Disney Daisy Duck was knitting a long scarf that Pete was forcing her to knit. Mickey came to rescue her and they used the long scarf to escape! Later this afternoon we had "Back to the Barnyard" on Netflix and the lady next door knits as well. I think it is cool how they are bringing knitting into kids shows! I have seen several adult movies where the women are knitting as well!

Anyone else notice knitting on TV?

I watch a lot of OLD movies and sure see it....but haven't seen it much on regular tv. I know Crystol Bowersox (one of the American Idol contestants) has a new song and video out and she is knitting in it. : )

That's cool. I haven't seen American Idol this year. I am into Biggest Loser and Parents. I love old movies too. I am a TCM freak. Much better movies than most of today. The Women had knitting in it almost throughout! :thumbup:

Yes, I saw Betty White knitting on her new show Hot in Cleveland which by the way is so funny. I agree that it is wonderful that it is coming back into fashion. I teach teenagers at my local library in and after school program which is alot of fun and they are so eager to learn. This year we are making socks.

Yes I have seen characters knitting in movies and lately in an airline commercial. I smile to see them. Once there was a posting of Stars who knit. It included men and women. At the time I printed the list which included pictures but it has since gotten away from me.

In the Harry Potter movies..Dumbledore was very fond of "muggle" knitting patterns, and Mrs. Weasley used magic for her knitting.

i would like to know how to teach my 8 qnd 5 year old grandchildren how to knit without pulling out all my grey hair. the 5 year old has made a half an inch of messy knitting and has picked the color and pattern and wants to start a sweater for her doll. she is very determined HELP

the 5 year old is a little young a couple of more years to get the fine motor skills down. But the 8 year old should do fine. Use big needles and heavy yarn to start with so they can see the stitches and what they look like, also recommend using a light color as dark colors are harder to see what the stitch looks like. Then most of all have fun and let them have fun.
Dropped stitches can be fun also and a learning tool as well.

This is what I did with my niece. We just took our time and she was knitting. I have not gotten to the purl yet, but I let her get the knitting down first. We will purl next time. Then I will have her do a few rows of purl only so she understands it. Simple projects are best with which to start. A sweater for a doll may be a little much. There are great pillow and baby blankets that could be used for a doll patterns out there. Then she should be ready for a sweater!

The biggest thing is to have fun, be patient, and remember it is just yarn. It pull out and nothing is lost! :thumbup:

I just taught my 8 year old grandson to use the knitting loom and he is loving it. He made a hat and a bag to carry his special friend 'monkey' for sleepovers. I am sending him to cotton yarn so they can make washcloths for 'give2thetroops'. His 6 year old brother did not have the patience to sit and work on a project but he loved the bag I made for him. I figured out how to do a two-color tweed and we grafted the bottom (top) together for a nice finish.

I have been knitting on airplanes for years. I have never had a problem.

I looked on the TSA website first and they do allow knitting needles; I also told the agent I had them just for a heads up. I forgot I had a small swiss army knife in my makeup kit, they didn't let me take that on. :?

I couldn't get into the court house with them. That was crazy. I wanted to knit while I was waiting for my son to get his license. She stated that they were considered weapons! Well, I guess if you get in the way of my knitting. :-D
