Knitting Tea Party, Friday 18th November, 2022 :knitting1:

I seem to be getting earlier and earlier posting the new week, but I’m always afraid as the night goes on that I’ll forget altogether! So here we are early as usual - and to be honest “early” is not usually my “usual”, I’m more inclined the opposite!

Summary of Friday 11th November, 2022 by Darowil
The summary and following lists are a summary of last week's Tea Party and are of more value to the regulars here unable to keep up with all the chatter than to newbies - who are very welcome to join us at any time just by speaking up and making yourself known. All the pages etc refer to last week’s Tea Party Knitting Tea Party, Friday 11th November, 2022

A lot more pages this week than we have had for a while but mainly general chit-chat this week.

Kate has been referred for an endoscopy although the nausea has now gone. 🤞🏻

Flyty1n had a MRI this week to work out what is wrong with her leg - no wonder she has had pain as she has a break and a meniscal tear. Fracture is well aligned and only a small tear so no treatment other than Tylenol/paracetamol and walking only as tolerable without too much pain.

Machristie came back from her weekend away unwell - and remains unwell.

Jazzy has been looking after her grandson this week and so has been around very little. Now back home.

Poledra has finally done the last of her farm work - and tells us she is not going to do it next year!

Grandies are growing up quickly with one reaching double figures, twins reaching two and two young ones becoming mobile - Matthias especially. Some weeks just seem to make the KP grandies growing up show up so clearly.

Caught up, so off to knit, decided to stay home today, unless I decide to walk downtown here and get a cup of coffee, but I want to finish my socks and Marla's tee and then get another pair of socks cast on, and the yarn for the commissioned sweater is out for delivery.
You have your hands full of knitting. How exciting the yarn will be there for the commission. You are one knitting lady. Wish I were that ambitious.

The only nice thing I can remember about my brother was that he used to line his pockets with plastic bags when my mother served pickled tripe (We thought it was whale blubber as it tasted so bad.) She would serve it and that was the only night that all three begged to sit beside each other. We would cut it up and pretend to eat. Actually we cleaned our plates and she would want to offer more. It all got passed under the table to my brother for his pocket baggie. He would then take my bike and go for a ride to a local park with trails and a pond. He said he would add a rock for weight and as soon as it hit the water in the pond it sank never to be seen or thought of again.
Oh reading what you all got up to is hilarious! What little children get up to, just so we didn’t have to eat something we didn’t like. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I've decided to try a Marly Bird one for a neck item. HAs. knit, crochet and Tunisian pattern so I'm going to try the Tunisian. And I am doing it from stash as well. Figure I may as well go beyond squares for Tunisian. Just over the Thanksgiving weekend so shouldn't be too long (assuming I can manage the new stitches and I can find time).

Live is going through one of those busy times for me. David and I spent quite a few hours with my friend who lost her mother today. Sh his doing OK but totally exhausted and not sleeping (hasn't been for a while).
She was so surprised and delighted to find out we were going the funeral. I looked at David and said we didn't even discuss it did we? Didn't we both just assume it was a given? Yes we thought. Of course we would be there for her. After all I have known here over 40 years and shared a unit with her for a couple of years before she got married. We did lose contact for a while (neither of us are good at keeping up communicating) but met in an Antatic Exhibition in Hobart, Tasmania. The island state of Australia where neither of us lived! What were the odds of us both being in Hobart at the same time let alone in the same same museum at exactly the same time? I heard her speaking and thought that's Yvonne! We figured God meant us to meet up again.
I would call that a "tender mercy" for you and your friend. So glad you are helping her out in her sorrow.
Yes, squirrels love to torment dogs. All we have to say is squirrel & Kimber is at the door for a chase
😂 Roxy too. She can’t get out the door fast enough.
You got that right, in Nicolas family, her mum is a control freak, and it causes a lot of tension, everything has to be done exactly when she says and nothing Is ever good enough where Nicola is concerned and it’s really hard on her mentally. We all love her very much and always tell her so.
That is sad. Good thing she has your family’s love.

Then I would call you her family of the heart. She's a lucky girl.

Oops as I was saying, pancakes with fresh berries cream maple syrup. Then they are heading for Nicolas family big dinner about 80 kms south to Hamilton. They hate going there as there’s always tension and dramas which upsets everyone. Doug told me they want to change their Christmas Day plans and have their own time at home but so far it’s not happening.
‘So sad there is so much drama on supposedly a great family day. She feels very grateful to our family as we are very supportive and loving to each other as it should be.
‘Not much happening for me today, except doing the laundry and using the dryer and rack as it’s too wet to hang it outside today.
‘A nice cuppa coming up to keep the warmth in. Not needing the heating on just using my heated wheat bag for extra comfort.
🤣 Pancakes makes a lot more sense. Lol
Unfortunately, it's hard to change the tradition, but the easiest way to do it, is just announce that they're staying home, and then, do that. Easier said than done though, hope they can find a solution.

A very grey day here but up near freezing & really windy. Some area even got freezing rain, yuk.
i had wanted to go up to Edmonton today but DH had other ideas so I guess we will be getting up & on the road before 6am, also yuk! I hope the roads are OK or I will never hear the end of it. DH isn’t real keen on going as he doesn’t know this man’s kids but I want to go & see the his siblings. I keep in touch with them & haven’t seen them in years. If it was one of his family, there’d be no question Of going. I think because it’s my Step-Dads family rather than my blood cousins, who knows.
Ive been busy sewing, have a good start on GSs jacket so I guess I better get back at it. I was digging in my stash & found so odds & ends & thinking I might make a little jacket for my friends new GS, it would use up some bits & pieces & the only thing I’d have to buy is maybe a zipper & I might even have that.
Have a safe drive, I hope the weather is accomodating.

When my youngest son started his family, I told him it was more important to begin their own traditions instead of being expected to always come home, especially when that meant travelling. When you're working full time, those days off during the holidays are precious downtime.

How adorable little hat.
I'm looking for Cranberry yarn now. lol, I'll let you know how it goes.
Have you tried dyeing your own using cranberries?

I’m so thankful my family lives close enough that it’s no hardship for them to come home although DS 2 has missed 7 Christmases by being at work.
I always cook each Christmas dinner but sometimes didn’t get to eat because I got called to work

Congratulations to the hunters. DS1 stopped in this morning, he’d been out for a look but didn’t see anything. Last winter was so hard on them a lot died off. The boys were talking about putting out some good bales or a straw bale with oats to help them out.
DH hasn’t got one either
sorry you son and DH haven’t got any yet…here it’s almost the last chance…. My one sil got one a couple of weeks ago but my other sil has nothing. I haven’t heard that he got anything this morning. And my son took the 10 year old this morning but doubt if he got anything since there’s silence all around. It sure helps with the meat supply even though they aren’t huge. My youngest dd only uses the ground venison when they have it in place of beef. It’s fine, even in tacos.
That will be fun, can't wait to see it, my sock is going very well, I'll be making a few more pair of these between now and Christmas.
I've ended up doing the knitted one as the Tunisian one needed two hooks- and I still only have one.
Did start looking at more of the KnitPro hooks as they can be used as crochet hooks or added to the KnitPro cables for Tunisian. Don't think I will ever do a lot but I enjoy it enough to figure I will do more so worth more hooks. Could leave them till I want them but then I end up like last night without one when I need it.

Two options for the neck and doing the simpler one. I'm also doing a sock one- have all the clues and am so far on track with the first sock though don't think I will get the foot finished in the week. The reason for the simpler neck item is hoping it will allow me to make more progress on the foot.

I hope your sister will survive the Covid. Crazy how people won’t accept vaccines or treatments.
One of my friends texted last night, her BIL died yesterday of Covid, he had asthma & a heart condition & judging by those he hung out with, we expect probably wasn’t vaccinated. Sad for the family as that’s the 3rd they have lost in recent months. He was a bachelor & I think around 70.
My friends mother was signed off as dying from Covid though my friend (a doctor) isn't convinced as her mother had been put on oxygen a couple of weeks before she devoted Covid so clearly something was going on already.
It's bad when politics and religion become flashpoints. Some families and friendships have never recovered from disagreements over COVID protocols and mandates or differences in political affiliations and beliefs. There's so much stress in the world now, you would think family would be a safe haven where all of that could be put temporarily on hold for a bit of peace.
I guess with family you don't choose them but friends are more likely to think similar to you or to accept the differences or less likely you would be friends if your opinions differed hugely and you couldn't accept the other persons.

The first couple years after we got married we travelled between both families (around a 2 hour trip one way with us living at the midpoint between them) but once Maryanne was a toddler we decided it was too much to manage so started alternating each year. And that created friction with David's mother who was not happy. And even worse when one year we decided to just have a home Christmas- by then we had moved and around 6 hour trip to either family. Well that was just not on as far as MIL was concerned. Not that she succeeded in stopping us staying staying put.
