Knitting Tea Party, Friday 18th November, 2022 :knitting1:

I seem to be getting earlier and earlier posting the new week, but I’m always afraid as the night goes on that I’ll forget altogether! So here we are early as usual - and to be honest “early” is not usually my “usual”, I’m more inclined the opposite!

Summary of Friday 11th November, 2022 by Darowil
The summary and following lists are a summary of last week's Tea Party and are of more value to the regulars here unable to keep up with all the chatter than to newbies - who are very welcome to join us at any time just by speaking up and making yourself known. All the pages etc refer to last week’s Tea Party Knitting Tea Party, Friday 11th November, 2022

A lot more pages this week than we have had for a while but mainly general chit-chat this week.

Kate has been referred for an endoscopy although the nausea has now gone. 🤞🏻

Flyty1n had a MRI this week to work out what is wrong with her leg - no wonder she has had pain as she has a break and a meniscal tear. Fracture is well aligned and only a small tear so no treatment other than Tylenol/paracetamol and walking only as tolerable without too much pain.

Machristie came back from her weekend away unwell - and remains unwell.

Jazzy has been looking after her grandson this week and so has been around very little. Now back home.

Poledra has finally done the last of her farm work - and tells us she is not going to do it next year!

Grandies are growing up quickly with one reaching double figures, twins reaching two and two young ones becoming mobile - Matthias especially. Some weeks just seem to make the KP grandies growing up show up so clearly.

You are right, it is a lot of work, and it will definitely be treasured! I can only work on it in good lighting. I was finally smart. I took what I had finished of the cabin, and the graph/chart that I had taken to the library and had enlarged, to the eye doctor when I had my exam in October. I told her that that and knitting on fine yarn to make socks was what I did most. And that I have a really hard time reading the charts. So she tested me to see what strength readers I need just for doing the bead work! They work great! I wear contacts for distance, and can't use the multi-focal because they don't make the strengths I need together, it's either one or the other. The readers I use for everything else are a+2.50, and the ones for beading are +3.0, and even better, she sent me to the store next door that sells them for $1! I did get a pair there, but also went to Walmart and got a better pair for $5. I'm not having the chart scrambling for me as much. Before it was all jumbled and scrambled. Now at least I can use post it notes to mark each row, and not always have to use 2 to isolate the row I am working on. There are so many pages to this pattern that I printed just the charts and took them to be enlarged as much as possible, and I am using the Adobe .pdf program on my Kindle Fire to use the rest of the pattern for all of the steps and pictures of each step. It makes it so much easier! And it doesn't use all that paper and ink!
WOW! That’s a lot prep work but I can totally understand why. Now I’m wondering how many people even attempt to undertake such a project. I know for sure I wouldn’t have the patience.
Good afternoon/morning from a pretty grey Berkshire. We had a brief few minutes do sunshine about an hour ago but it’s vanished again now. Thank you Kate & Margaret for your all your hard work in getting us started on another week. Time seems to fly by, I can’t believe it’s only five weeks to Christmas.
I’m having a quiet day today, our London Explorers group had a trip yesterday to the National Gallery. The guy organising it has a friend who is a tour guide there so we had our own private tour for two hours. He was such a lovely man and made the whole tour so interesting and was a great teacher. I tend to look at a picture and either I like it or I don’t After yesterday I’ll be looking with a much more educated eye! Afterwards we went for lunch at a nearby pub and then I left the group and met up with my DGD who works at a theatre nearby. A lovely day but very tiring.
That sounds like a really lovely day and bonus you got to meet up with your DGD.

Good evening and thank you Margaret and Kate for the new tea party. Sick of being sick, but have not gone to doctor. There is not much treatment for a virus and no sign of anything bacterial like bronchitis. I think it’s just tough it out and stay isolated.
DD keeps me supplied with kleenex, orange juice, lemons and soups. She leaves things outside my back door. We definitely have snow and temps are down, but not below 0 F yet. I’m staying inside for now. Drinking a lot of tea with lemon and honey.
Good that your DD is keeping you supplied, hopefully this passes soon, tea with lemon and honey never hurts.

it’s still $4,59 here. I’m wondering why…it seems other areas have cheaper gas. Even some of the smaller towns around here do.
Because they can get it.

Seems to me I remember that Hersey makes a dark chocolate Kiss??? I don't like milk chocolate. I could add some mini dark chips as I make them??? Guess what I need to bake.
Guess I’m the odd one out as I really don’t like chocolate chip cookies of any type. I believe it’s those horrible ugly tasting chocolate bits/chips they use. They are artificial chocolate, not real chocolate and taste horrible to me, lol! I’ve even had people upset with me, as I wouldn’t even try their homemade chocolate cookies. 🙄😁.
Thank you Kate and Margaret! You are so appreciated. I was a little late to exercise this morning. DH took the truck over to the club house for coffee, and got back here at 9, thinking he was on time, except I was supposed to be there at 9 and Gale usually starts a few minutes early! That's ok, I still got my work out! Then beading. I finally have the boiler finished for the Christmas train ornament I am making DH. That's 2 pieces out of I don't remember how many that get put together to make the whole locomotive. I may have posted the link for you before, but I don't remember. Right now I have just the locomotive started, but I do have the patterns for the rest of the train. Christmas Train Ornament Pattern Part 1 The Train Engine Bead Pattern By ThreadABead

Jeanne called me this morning and said to check the mail. They had coupons to a restaurant we haven't been to before that had 2 hamburgers, fries and drink (non-alcoholic) for $15. So we went and tried it. The burgers were good, fries were crisp but not over done. A good meal. And we checked out the menu while we were waiting for our food, and have decided it's worth going back to. The prices were competitive with most other places. We are back home with the electric heaters going and I have a heat pack on my feet on the footstool with a blanket over my lap. The sky is clear, the air is crisp and it's 44F at 8p. Brr! And I think DH is napping in his chair with the RV on. This getting dark so early is the pits! I'm even ready for bed this early tonight!

Back to the top to catch up and send the summary to Joy and Kathy.
You’re going to have your work cut out if you make the whole train but I’m sure you’ll make a good job of it. Looking forward to seeing the finished project (however long it takes!).

$1.62 for premium a litre here yesterday, plus I just filled up last week. 🙄🙄. Guess I’ve been driving around more than usual these past several weeks. 🙄🙄😁😁👍👍. Blame it on Lynnette’s love of looking at Christmas decorations, lol!

The video with the boys singing was a hoot, but boy they're good.
I'm all caught up, had a great day, and the weather wasn't bad, cool but not bad.
Thank you K&M for the new week, greatly appreciated, early or late, doesn't matter, whenever you get us started is good with me.

I'm off to bed, syt.
I watched the 2 young boys late last night and “yes” they were amazing.
Totally agree with what you said to K&M, doesn’t matter when they start the new week, just thankful they take this time to do it. A “Big Thank You to All who start the New TP weekly.” 🥳😁👍🥰

It’s called gouging! Can you drive to other area’s to buy your gas. I always try to buy whenever I’m near Costco as they are cheaper there for me. If I go to the gasoline stations in my neighborhood, they are between 10 & 15 cents a litre more expensive.

Good morning, the sun is coming up and we're supposed to hit a high of 42f, yay.
Have to run to the bakery and get my loaf of bread later, and stop by the LQS/LYS to talk to the owners for a few minutes, but otherwise, the plan is to hit the treadmill and then do some more cleaning/organizing.
Have a great day all, stay safe and well, and those unwell, take care of yourselves.

I thought you would like to see my other two Singer sewing machines. My son Bobby gave me the other two besides giving me the other one he brought when he moved here from Memphis. He bought the other two when he was upholstered his station wagon 1960, so he gave them to me. I'm having fun with them. I really like using those old machines. He gave me those machines at a good time because my other two sewing machines needed to go to the sewing machine hospital, lol. I put different colored thread in each machine, and I just switch machines when I need to sew that color. The middle sewing machine has a new fast motor on it and I have to use a light foot on it or it will fly off the table, lol. Two of them don't reverse stitch and it only has one stitch length. There is a knob that supposed to change the stitch length, but it doesn't work but I really don't care about that.
Wow they are amazing, thanks for posting. Sure bought back many memories of seeing and sometimes even using these OLD Singer machines.
My Mother had a very old one but it was on a really fancy stand, it was beautiful. There was a large platform where you would use your feet to treadle to make the machine work. It wasn’t electric. 🙄😁 It was the machine that I learnt to sew on as a Very young child. I made dolls cloths and slowly graduated to making clothes for myself, until I was a teenager, about 17 - I made myself a beautiful cashmere coat. Would love to still have that, it was what we called a “Swing-back” style. WOW, now you know how old I am, lol!

Thankyou ladies once again. Another wet day here today... it is just starting to fine up a bit mid afternoon, but more forecast tonight if it happens. Well DD and both girls have just tested positive for covid (again they had it in Feb) , and I had Penelope here yesterday for a few hours... at least we were mainly outside though as it was a nice day so fingers crossed I don't get it too. So far Penelope has no symptoms, Serena a slight runny nose and DD has the bad headache... which is why tested in the first place.

Bonnie.... I posted at the end of last week to note that the pattern says to use black for penguin feet but I did use yellow. Edit... also I used white where the pattern said cream.
I hope they don’t get too sick & you don’t get it.

Here we are once again.
Strawberry: remember what Jazzy went through and follow her lead. She stuck exactly by whatever she was told to do and came out great. Not easy, but following instructions so important.
I'm laughin as I saw gas yesterday in town at $5.39 and remarked to DH how much it has gone down recently! LOL
We know California pays at least $1.00 more a gallon because of the MTBE added to gas. When they began the addition dog's years ago, it was almost immediately much less smog everywhere. That continues. No doubt it is doing something else to the ground water, or something, but it sure has cured that smog problem for the most part.
DD and hubby should be here by 1 or 2 so off to finish prepping veggies (broccoli and asperagus) and a little more cleaning and straightening. Catch you all much later or tomorrow.
Have a great one!

I just checked out the link for your beaded train -- wow! I don't know if I would still have the patience for that type of handwork, but you're enjoying it and it's going to be amazing when it's done.

Is your surgery next month or just the prep visits? Hopefully the surgery will be successful. An important part of that being the case is following what you are told- and that will mean no housework, a good ground on which to get some help into the house as if you start too soon you dramatically increase the likelihood that the surgery won't work. And yes shoulder shoulder does take a long time to recover so be prepared for a long recovery period. While there is no guarantee that it will work even if you do everything as you are advised there little chance of success if you aren't able to stop things that you are told not to do.
I do hope Strawberry4U listens to her doctors and us, If she doesn’t and starts doing what she shouldn’t be doing, then she’s only going to make things a LOT worse. Harsh of me to say, but she’s GOT to be firm and listen to those who are trying to help her. No sense in having the surgery if she doesn’t.

I do wish her well and hope the surgery is a success and eases the pain. The rest is up to her. 🥰🥰👍👍

We very seldom eat dessert but tonight I had a craving for something sweet so I made this apple dessert. I thought I would share the recipe because it's fast, economical and light. No idea what to call it but I've had the recipe since the mid 70s.

2/3 cup white sugar
1 cup apple, peeled, cored and diced (I just use the whole apple) NOTE: use a good cooking apple like MacIntosh
1 egg, well beaten
1/2 cup flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Combine the apple and sugar in a bowl with a spatula until sugar is moist. Add the egg and mix thoroughly. Combine dry ingredients and add to the apple mixture, fold in chopped nuts. Spread in a greased 9" pie plate, bake 30 minutes at 350°F. Serve warm or room temp.

I've made this successfully with Robin Hood gluten free flour if you need to substitute.

If they don't pay the deductible I would take them to small claims court. I expect that that would make them do it.
Thank you for the cookie reciipe JoRae. I think it will be cookies today for tomorrow's dessert.
Thanks also for the apple dessert. So good to have tried and true recipes.
Might be an idea to take them to small claims court, I didn’t think of that. Good point!
Also think it’s mean of the insurance company to take away , oh darn now I can’t remember what the insurance company will take away from Bonnie’s husband. Anyway, Insurance companies are scammers, we pay to be protected but once you put in a claim they are no help. Just another company gouging the good people.
Time to have something to eat as my brain isn’t working like it should,,lol!

I am hoping you will have very good success with your shoulder repair. Both of my sisters had this, one with the need of a graft as well and they were back to work in about 2 months. Both are doing very well now with minimal pain. I am hoping that yours will go as well. They are both over the age of 73 so age should not be a problem.
This should be very encouraging news for Strawberry4U. 👍👍

I could, but I’d have to drive a good half hour before I got there. if it’s on my way, which it usually isn’t, I do fill up. Haven’t seen it under $4. here in forever.
