Knitting Tea Party, Friday 18th November, 2022 :knitting1:

I seem to be getting earlier and earlier posting the new week, but I’m always afraid as the night goes on that I’ll forget altogether! So here we are early as usual - and to be honest “early” is not usually my “usual”, I’m more inclined the opposite!

Summary of Friday 11th November, 2022 by Darowil
The summary and following lists are a summary of last week's Tea Party and are of more value to the regulars here unable to keep up with all the chatter than to newbies - who are very welcome to join us at any time just by speaking up and making yourself known. All the pages etc refer to last week’s Tea Party Knitting Tea Party, Friday 11th November, 2022

A lot more pages this week than we have had for a while but mainly general chit-chat this week.

Kate has been referred for an endoscopy although the nausea has now gone. 🤞🏻

Flyty1n had a MRI this week to work out what is wrong with her leg - no wonder she has had pain as she has a break and a meniscal tear. Fracture is well aligned and only a small tear so no treatment other than Tylenol/paracetamol and walking only as tolerable without too much pain.

Machristie came back from her weekend away unwell - and remains unwell.

Jazzy has been looking after her grandson this week and so has been around very little. Now back home.

Poledra has finally done the last of her farm work - and tells us she is not going to do it next year!

Grandies are growing up quickly with one reaching double figures, twins reaching two and two young ones becoming mobile - Matthias especially. Some weeks just seem to make the KP grandies growing up show up so clearly.

good morning. Not as cold as other mornings. 7:30 and 22*. But looks like the sun will shine today so should be a wonderful day. I have no where to go or be today. Yay! I suppose I could work outside but I’m not going to rake any more leaves…. I’m afraid at this point will also rake up too much of the bark. So the rest of the leaves will need to decay and provide mulch. Angela, sounds like your day was perfect! And a well informed guide is a godsend. 2 hours sounds just long enough. At least that’s my limit…anything after that my brain goes into overload and doesn’t take any else in. Strawberry Sharon, those machines are wonderful. My mom had a similar old one when we immigrated. She traded it in for a new singer machine….that was back when singer was still a good name. One of my DD’s now has that machine and it still works very well. I hope you will follow the advice of the others here regarding your shoulder surgery. Wishing you a good outcome. I must update you on my little grandson who had his food stolen at school. He is doing so much better and the reading has now definitely clicked! As has the spelling. Everyone is thrilled for him. Bonnie, I hope you ds has his truck fixed soon. I can imagine that’s a tricky job. And I sure hope the mechanics place coughs up the deductible. Otherwise like mentioned, maybe a small claims court and lots of free advertising on your sons part. Well, I’m going to get going. Hope y’all have a good day or night.

My Mother had a very old one but it was on a really fancy stand, it was beautiful. There was a large platform where you would use your feet to treadle to make the machine work. It wasn’t electric. 🙄😁 It was the machine that I learnt to sew on as a Very young child. I made dolls cloths and slowly graduated to making clothes for myself, until I was a teenager, about 17 - I made myself a beautiful cashmere coat. Would love to still have that, it was what we called a “Swing-back” style. WOW, now you know how old I am, lol!

I remember back in the 60s, which must have been about when electric sewing machines were becoming popular, we used to go to a restaurant where all the tables were the old treadle machine tables. Don’t know what they did with all those old machines, probably just threw them out, then put in a piece of wood to fill the hole. You could treadle away whilst waiting for your food to arrive!

That is great news about your grandson. It looks like the stress at school was definitely having an impact on his progress, but now that he has tasted success it will be motivation to keep it up. Good for him and good for the adults who took his concerns seriously.

I agree. Thanks for sharing! I can't see how all those others can keep a straight face during the performance. The one with dark hair smiled a few times but was able to keep it together.

If I am willing to drive 20-30 minutes out of my area it is also 10-20 cents cheaper a gallon. I guess that they haven't heard that they can gouge and get away with it. That rumor is not slow. :ROFLMAO:

They had treadle machines still when I took Home Economics in the 8th grade. I never had to use one as they had 1 electric machine and I learned on one similar. I wish now that I had learned to use a non-electric machine, so that I could say that I could use it. Even my MIL old singer is electric from 1938. I made all of my own clothes by the time I was in 8th grade using my mother's portable sewing machine (Bradford sold at W.T.Grants which I have to this day.) They were all metal parts and heavy workers for the tough jobs like upholstery etc. One of my sons was asking if I still had that old heavy duty machine the other day. He wants to sew some canvas.

That is what I really like about the old machines they will sew very heavy fabric like canvas.
‘I have a modern Singer and really like it, it has lots of fancy stitches to play with. I’ve used those on Pants hems, and patchwork quilts.
Being short legged I often have to take up hems on pants so it’s very handy for that. Haven’t made any clothes for many years though.

I got to sleep in and then got ready for the day. Trash has been collected and gone. David is all cleaned up watered and fed. I have a funeral at 2 I must go soon as there will be a huge crowd and shortage of parking. I can always sit in the car and knit until time to go in. I figure I might need to be there by about 1p.m. I copied down that apple recipe and just bought Macs. It looks easy and small enough for me to handle and am sure canned whipped cream or ice cream will just put it over the top.
I wasted a lot of excess time last night when I went down the rabbit hole of watching these ladies putting desserts together with canned pie filling, butter, cake mixes and the like. They weren't too accurate on Measurements.

Good morning ladies, happy Sunday to the downunder folks, and Saturday to others.
‘It was a very busy chatty day yesterday thoroughly enjoyed myself going out with Helena and then the visit from Kay and David.
‘David loves cooking so I hope the cake recipe turns out well for him. I may even try it myself again.
‘Jazzy I like your apple dessert recipe it sounds very yummy.
Just had next Fosamax and all is well with that, no tummy issues👍
Shoulder trouble is prevalent it seems, Josie my friend was working on the farm on Friday and whacked her shoulder and the pain was awful. Went to urgent care clinic but there was a 3 hour wait, so she waited and went on opening time yesterday, had X-rays no break but severely bruised internally so needs to take it easy and have Physiotherapy on it. Will give her a call today and see if she needs any help I could do for her.
‘Well I’ve sat up for the required 30 minutes after the pill so now can go and get breakfast, and see what my Tomten have been doing overnight.
‘Still unsure whether to tackle making the ladies new panties and skirts yet, but being a soft hearted soul I might relent and give in if they ask nicely.….

Went to the basement and bought a few more Christmas decorations up to try them in different area’s than where I had the few last year Placed. I see one of my neighbours already has her christmas urn decorated and outside on her front porch area.
I looked at a few places when I was out, the extra large ones that I would need are $200.00 each, I would need 2. 😳😳. The smaller ones would be way too small for my containers which are now in the garage.
I didn’t even buy flowers to go in them this past summer, plus I’d never be able to lift them in and out of the tall black containers. Saddens me but reality is reality. This will be the 1st time since Carols passing that I’m really bringing all the Christmas stuff (lol!) upstairs to decorate. Hopefully, I will also invite a few of the neighbours over for wine and cheese. Will see how I feel in a couple of weeks first, as I don’t want to invite anyone then regret it. I like to do things like that on the spur of the moment, that way I don’t become a basket case of nerves, lol! Silly I know and a good excuse for enjoying Christmas alone with my wonderful memories. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

Bonnie.... I posted at the end of last week to note that the pattern says to use black for penguin feet but I did use yellow. Edit... also I used white where the pattern said cream.

YaY! My ball winder got here today, it's a belt driven wood, off Etsy, I love it, it works so well, and it was only $51 from Prime Artist Store. I'd buy it again in a heartbeat.

Just got off the phone from a call with maryLou she’s sending me another parcel so hoping this one arrives safely.
‘We had a good long chat, so wish we lived closer but 14,000 kms is quite a distance and have never met in person but like you all we are great friends across the world.
Lynette your decorating skills are fantastic hope you can get what you want.
Been busy this morning writing cards for friends within NZ, a nice task to get done.
‘I think a cuppa and date truffle will be in order. At last it’s stopped raining, but we sure had some serious thunder rumbling last evening.

I thought you would like to see my other two Singer sewing machines. My son Bobby gave me the other two besides giving me the other one he brought when he moved here from Memphis. He bought the other two when he was upholstered his station wagon 1960, so he gave them to me. I'm having fun with them. I really like using those old machines. He gave me those machines at a good time because my other two sewing machines needed to go to the sewing machine hospital,lol. I put different colored thread in each machine, and I just switch machines when I need to sew that color. The middle sewing machine has a new fast motor on it and I have to use a light foot on it or it will fly off the table, lol. Two of them don't reverse stitch and it only has one stitch length. There is a knob that supposed to change the stitch length, but it doesn't work but I really don't care about that.

Love them! I have my aunt's on a base like yours on the right. It has a cover with a rounded top. It needs to be re-wired to safely use it. Great idea to thread each with a different color.
