I made this little kitty from the Alan Dart pattern that was in the May 2013 Simply Knitting magazine. I only used what was in my stash and I didn't have any DK yarn, not easy to find here in the states.

I am almost sure I used Caron Simply Soft. I use a lot of it for toys because it's not real thick or fuzzy. Makes a nice finish to toys.

I'm surprised you have trouble finding DK weight yarn. I can find it at AC Moore without any trouble. Sport yarn works up almost exactly the same too.
