I am really happy with the afghan however, I used Caron One Pound yarn it is very scratchy. I have heard people say to soak in hair conditioner. If I put it in washing machine how much should I add? Also, should I put in dryer on low heat or air to get most of the water out.

Just use a liquid fabric softener in the washing machine and a softener sheet in the dryer. Set the dryer to the lowest setting and don't overdry. Acrylic can melt. I would not put hair conditioner in my washing machine.

I really like the pattern. Is it available for free on the internet?

It is a Mary Maxim pattern. She had some kits for it, but I didn't want to buy the kit. I got the pattern for 1.99 and purchased my yarn here. Her yarns are very nice but I didn't want to spend $40 at that time.
It is "Rippled afghan" # 1956
