Just returned from a class in Fair Isle knitting techniques, part of Interweave Knitting Lab being held this week at the Radisson in Manchester, NH. The teacher was fabulous, and I learned a lot. But I also learned how much I don't know. Tomorrow morning I'm taking Intarsia and Sunday morning, Fabulous Finishings. By then I'll be dizzy:)

This is how I knit. Feels natural for me, but don't ask me to knit English style! Nan
I usually knit english 'throwing' but have learnt continental, portugese and doing fairisle using one strand in each hand, but i am always open to different styles, as i am an impatient knitter and cant wait to see the finished product llol

Oh my goodness Jan, if you use both hands to do color work give continental style a try for the two colors. It does go a little faster, but I just enjoy the process. I am not in a hurry. Nan

Good for you, have you tried the continental way of strand work, where you hold the two strands in one hand? just curious as to how simple it is.
I knit the English way and hold both colours in one hand. One over middle finger, one over index finger, just flick the one I want over the needle. If I have more than three stitches in one colour, I have to stop and wrap the yarn around itself to stop the float from being too long.

I learned to knit fair isle with one yarn in one hand and one in the other. Took about 10 minutes to become comfortable with it. Works GREAT!

I also found one strand in each hand easiest. I just completed Mary Jane Mucklestone's Craftsy class on Fair Isle and loved it... It's my third knitting class on Craftsy and they have all been excellent... Reasonable prices too... First one was free and I keep my eye out for sales. My next one is going to be Lucy Neatby's Double Knitting class for $29.99.
