I have a pattern from Allfreeknitting for a Scallops and Lace sweater. I am having trouble deciding whether to make large or 1X. The finished bust size for L is 46 1/2...and for 1X is 49 1/2. I wear a size 40 DD bra. When I measure the fullest part of my bust it is 45 inches. I am inclined to make it 1x, but worried that the neck opening and shoulders would be too large. Can any of you suggest what would be best to do? Here is the link to the pattern:

If you are working to gauge I would only do the large. Remember a sweater has the ability to stretch a bit and around the bust you still have 1 1/2 inches of play. The 1x just might be inclined to look baggy.

I believe you are right about that...I don't want sag...I just don't want it to fit too tight around bust line. Thanks for your advice

very lovely top. I would go with the large also. It does look like it fits a bit loosely.

How does the 49 1/2" finished size compare with a sweater you currently wear and enjoy? I always compare measurements of my sweaters in use to those I want to knit to help me make decisions like this.
